Score pending commits with deterministic signals (duplicate, author_flood, burst, has_url, invite_like) so moderators can triage without paying for AI
Rank the moderation queue by risk score (then oldest), with AI scoring left env-gated and off by default
Show signal chips on each queue row so the ranking is explainable at a glance
Test plan
Run php artisan migrate and confirm existing pending commits are backfilled with scores/signals
As a non-admin, create commits that hit each signal and confirm scores/chips appear after create
Confirm admin commits stay auto-approved and are not scored
Open /moderation and confirm order is highest risk first, then oldest within the same score
Confirm MODERATION_AI_ENABLED=false (default) never calls the new AI risk-scoring provider (the existing OpenAI auto-moderation via ModerateCommit is separate and keyed on OPENAI_API_KEY)
Run php artisan test --compact tests/Unit/DeterministicModerationSignalsTest.php tests/Unit/Actions/ScoreCommitModerationTest.php tests/Unit/Actions/CreateCommitTest.php tests/Feature/Controllers/ModerationControllerTest.php
This hash-only lookup misses rejected commits that were approved during migration or auto-approved at creation: both paths leave body_hash null. UpdateCommitStatuses subsequently changes their status without initializing the hash, so a pending copy misses the 50-point duplicate signal. Populate missing hashes when commits transition to rejected, including bulk transitions, without scoring approved/admin commits. Add coverage for approved → rejected → pending copy.
Anchor the burst window to the commit's posting time, not the time it is scored. The migration scores historical pending commits, so a burst from yesterday receives no burst signal today; conversely, recent posts can flag an unrelated older commit. Use created_at as both the window endpoint and the basis for its lower bound so backfilled scores reflect posting activity at submission time.
Commits approved before this migration, or immediately approved at creation, have no body_hash. If one is later rejected, UpdateCommitStatuses changes its status without populating the hash. Subsequent pending copies therefore miss the duplicate signal and its default 50-point weight. Populate missing hashes when commits transition to rejected, keep approved/admin commits unscored, and add an approved → rejected → duplicate regression test.
Moderation metadata is exposed in ordinary commit responses
app/Queries/CommitBuilder.php:29
These fields are selected for ordinary commit responses but are not hidden during serialization. Authors can inspect their pending commits' scores, signals, and weights outside the admin-only queue, and the metadata remains exposed after approval. Hide all three fields by default on Commit, explicitly reveal only score/signals in ModerationController as it already does for ai_decision/ai_categories, and keep body_hash internal.
Transactional backfill holds an exclusive commits table lock
On PostgreSQL (the example configuration), Laravel runs this migration transactionally. The preceding ALTER TABLE therefore retains its exclusive table lock through both backfill passes. Each pending/rejected row is saved individually, with additional queries for each pending score, so reads and writes to commits are blocked for the entire backfill. Move the backfill into a separate data-only migration or deployment command so the schema transaction commits first.
Initially approved commits have no body_hash, and rejecting them through CommitRejectionController → UpdateCommitStatuses only updates their status. An identical pending repost therefore cannot match this lookup and misses the duplicate signal (50 points by default). Populate missing normalized hashes when commits transition to rejected, and add a regression test for the approved → rejected → repost flow.
Use commit creation time for backfilled burst scoring
The migration calls this method for existing pending commits, so now() measures their burst against deployment time rather than posting time. A burst from yesterday is missed, while recent posts by the same author can incorrectly flag an older commit. Bound the window by the commit's creation time so backfilled scores reflect activity around that post, and add a test with historical timestamps.
the duplicate signal in DeterministicModerationSignals::isDuplicate matches the same text from any user, and it has no minimum length. this means that every new user's post lands in the queue, so short replies like "thanks!", "gm", "+1" or "nice" will match each other all the time, and each match adds 50 points.
i ran it through CreateCommit to check:
post
score
signals
user b writes thanks! after user a wrote Thanks!
50
duplicate
user c writes join my discord https://t.me/scam
40
has_url, invite_like
so a friendly "thanks!" ends up above actual spam, which is the opposite of what the ranking is for.
maybe it could count as a duplicate when the same user posted that text before?

maybe it could count as a duplicate when the same user posted that text before?
Good catch. Narrowed it: another user’s matching text now only counts if it was rejected, and pending matches count only from the same author. Added your thanks! case as a test. Kept cross-user matches against rejected posts so copy-paste spam across accounts still gets flagged after the first rejection.
Score pending commits with explainable signals so the queue can be triaged without requiring a paid AI provider (AI remains env-gated and off by default).

Drop unused FindFirstUrl and ScoreCommitModeration constructor dependencies from CreateCommit. In CommunityStats, cast $term to string before array_key_exists so the language check is type-safe when the term is null.
Short replies like "thanks!" often match across users, causing false duplicate flags. A commit is now a duplicate only if the same text was rejected (by anyone) or is still pending from the same author.
Updated tests to cover both the cross-user pending case (not flagged) and the same-author pending case (flagged).
Read the translator output from the structured payload only when the response is a StructuredAgentResponse, falling back to an empty array otherwise. Previously the code indexed the response directly and read `->structured` separately, which could fail on non-structured responses. Non-structured responses now fall through to the existing `empty_or_malformed_response` failure path.
The change adds persisted moderation scores and signals for commits, deterministic and optional AI scoring, and a moderation queue ordered by score. It also updates structured AI response handling and adds configuration, migrations, backfill logic, and tests.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 9b232
The moderation scoring feature appears sound, but several new or modified tests are likely to fail or test the wrong thing. Fix them before merging so CI stays reliable.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 9b232
The scoring changes prioritize review without granting approval authority or broadening access to pending content. Existing administrator checks remain in place. Deployment sequencing and interrupted-backfill recovery still need operational validation.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated influence of ordinary users is over their submitted content and resulting triage priority. The new cross-author lookup consults rejected-content hashes, while score visibility remains administrator-gated. No new privilege, secret access, or infrastructure authority is established by the inspected scoring path.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The moderation route remains within authenticated routing, and ShowModerationRequest requires the authenticated user to satisfy isAdmin. This is an existing authorization boundary, not an elevation from ordinary user to administrator. The PR does not change the route or request authorization.
observed — The translation change validates structured response data before caching and retains the existing locked recheck of commit status and body. The community-statistics change casts the language lookup key while retaining its allowlist; neither diff grants additional tool authority.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Status updates reject Pending as a target, lock selected rows in a transaction, and skip rows already in the requested terminal state. The changed hash write preserves these controls. Web approval and rejection callers remain administrator-authorized; internal automated moderation callers restrict updates to pending commits.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Document schema-before-code deployment, interrupted-backfill resumption, and rollback with additive columns retained. Before enabling a scoring provider, define bounded execution and response validation because provider scoring is invoked synchronously within commit creation and historical backfill.

Move AI scoring out of the request transaction.
updateCommitModeration->handle() runs inside DB::transaction. When moderation.ai.enabled is true, aiSignals() calls AiModerationProvider::signals() synchronously. That is an external call. It holds the transaction open and blocks the request thread for every pending commit.
The contract has no timeout. A slow provider delays commit creation and keeps row locks longer. The catch (Throwable) in aiSignals() handles errors. It does not handle latency.
The default (AI off) is unaffected. Before anyone enables AI, run the provider call in a queued job, as ModerateCommit does. Keep the deterministic scoring inline.

Check the POST request separately from the redirected page.
The test reads the query log after the POST only. assertRedirectToRoute() does not execute the redirected log.show GET. Follow the redirect and clear the query log before checking redirected-page queries, or rename the test to state that it checks POST-only queries.
The current predicate can also match the legitimate $user->followers()->count() query executed during the POST’s achievement checks. Narrow the assertion or exclude that query.

Narrow the query predicate to the query under test.
CommitController::store() runs UserAchievementsQuery before and after the commit. That query calls $user->followers()->count(), and followers() uses the follows pivot. Its normal count query matches count(*), follows, and "users". (raw.githubusercontent.com)
The new filter therefore matches a legitimate achievement query and makes this test fail even when the redirect behavior is correct. Match the specific standalone follow-count query shape instead of every joined user/followers count.

Set the admin handle, not username.
User::isAdmin() compares the configured admin name with $this->handle. The factory maps handle to the profile, but username does not set that value. The later migration also drops users.username, so this override can fail during insertion.

Fix the to array expectation. The test fails as written.
Commit lists moderation_score, moderation_signals, and body_hash in #[Hidden([...])]. toArray() therefore omits them. Your own test at Lines 462-466 asserts this.
Lines 39-41 also repeat body_segments, preview_segments, and is_checking. Array keys are unique, so array_keys($commit->toArray()) can never match this list with toBe.
Remove the added entries.
