ci(e2e): file bug reports from the E2E projects - #5746
Conversation
The reporter itself ships in every project through DefaultExtensions, but `<BugReporter.GitHub>` had no way in. It lives on `@webiny/bug-reporter`, which a scaffolded project does not depend on, and `webiny/extensions` re-exported only the project-aws namespaces. So the token and repository documented on the component were unreachable outside this monorepo. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
E2E already deployed the reporter, since DefaultExtensions puts it in every project, but always in compose mode: no token means it only builds a prefilled GitHub URL. Nothing exercised the filing path. The new step edits the scaffolded `webiny.config.tsx` the same way the OpenSearch step already does, adding `<BugReporter.GitHub>` fed by `process.env`, so what runs is the setup a real project would write rather than a CI-only shape. Both values are read while the API bundle is built, so BUG_REPORTER_ENV goes on whichever step builds: the job env for the AWS variants, the explicit build step for standalone. A repository secret and variable, not the `next` environment, because the standalone variants run without `environment: next` and would otherwise see an empty token. With neither set the component emits no build param and the project deploys in compose mode, so a fork is unaffected. Both anchors are asserted. A template edit that drops the fragment fails the step instead of quietly deploying a project without the config. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

🚓 Slop Cop ✅ Nothing worth flagging. The diff looks consistent with the PR's stated intent and the code-style rules. The PR's diff matches its stated intent (wiring bug-reporter into E2E) with no signs of accidental large-scale deletions, secrets, debug leftovers, or merge conflicts, and no clear style-rule violations were found in the added/changed lines. Automated, non-blocking heads-up from an LLM. It can be wrong — use your judgment. Regenerates on every push. |

A shell one-liner long enough to carry a JSX element gets folded into a `>-` scalar by the workflow emitter. The result was six wrapped lines of sed that nobody could read, and whose correctness depended on where the emitter happened to wrap. The script also fails properly. `sed 's|a|b|'` that matches nothing exits 0, so a template reshaped past its anchors would have deployed a project quietly missing the config. This asserts both anchors, prints the file when one is gone, and is idempotent. It still edits what create-webiny-project generated rather than swapping in a fixture. A checked-in copy of the four configs would drift the moment someone edits a template, and every job would stay green while E2E quietly stopped testing what cwp actually produces. Being plain node, it runs on any machine: verified against all four templates (ddb, ddb+os, sqlite, postgres) plus the missing-anchor, missing-project and re-run paths. Review follow-ups on the bug reporter E2E wiring. Multi-line comments were stacked `//` where ai-context/code-style/comments.md asks for `/* ... */`, and inconsistently so: the same branch got it right in two other files. The surrounding wac files drift from the rule too, but that is not a reason to add more. `findLastIndex` was hand-rolled. The workflows pin Node 24 and the built-in has been there since 18, so nine lines go. Re-verified against all four templates plus the re-run, missing-anchor, missing-project and no-argument paths. Generated YAML is unchanged, since comments do not emit. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Mirrors the whitelabeling install, in the same two AWS sites and the same position. Pulled from S3 like any other published extension, so E2E covers the install path a customer takes, not just the extension's code. Drafting falls back to the reporter's own words in E2E, since no AI provider is configured. Provider keys are encrypted runtime settings rather than build params, so CI has no way to set one. What this proves is that the extension installs, registers its capability, and the API still builds. Depends on webiny/extensions#3. The extension reaches S3 only when that merges to main, so this step fails until it does. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

`<BugReporter.GitHub>` came from `@webiny/bug-reporter` through a new
`webiny/extensions` export. It reads better next to the other project-level
settings, so it is now `<Project.BugReporter>` and the extra export is gone.
It lives in `@webiny/project` rather than the bug reporter package, because
that package already depends on `@webiny/project-aws` for `Api` and `Admin`,
so the Project namespace reaching back into it would close a cycle. Nothing
is lost: it only ever emitted build params. Becoming a real `defineExtension`
also gets it a params schema, which the old React component never had.
That schema surfaced a trap the old component hid. Reading an unset key off
`process.env` while the config renders returns an object rather than
`undefined`, so `token={process.env.BUG_REPORT_GITHUB_TOKEN}` failed the
string schema and took the whole build down. Every template already writes
`process.env.X || ""` for this reason. The repo config and the E2E injector
now do too.
Verified against all four scaffolded templates plus the re-run and failure
paths, and by rendering this repo's own config through sync-dependencies.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The config component moved from a `BugReporter` export on `webiny/extensions` to `Project.BugReporter` (webiny/webiny-js#5746), so a sibling section next to Id, Telemetry, AutoInstall and FeatureFlags is the obvious home. One prop table beats two that drift, so the standalone page goes. The conceptual material is compressed rather than dropped: compose versus filed is two sentences, and the recorder is a paragraph instead of a seven-row table, which keeps this in proportion to FeatureFlags above it. Adds a second bolded gotcha alongside "filing needs token and repository": environment variables have to be guarded with `|| ""`, because an unset key renders as an object rather than undefined and fails the new params schema mid-build. That one bit the feature's own PR. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

There are two Project namespaces, one per hosting type, and only the AWS one
got `BugReporter`. A standalone project reaching for `Project` from
`@webiny/project-standalone` would not have found it.
The bug reporter ships in every project through DefaultExtensions regardless
of hosting type, so both namespaces need it. `AutoInstall` stays AWS-only,
since it has no meaning without a deploy.
E2E did not catch this: the injector writes `import { Project } from
"webiny/extensions"`, which resolves to the AWS namespace even in the
standalone variants, matching what the standalone templates already do for
`Admin`.
Both namespaces now resolve to the same `Project/BugReporter` extension, and
the repo config renders under both WEBINY_HOSTING_TYPE values.

Filing needs both since #5736, so this config had a token, no repository, and quietly stayed in compose mode. Reads BUG_REPORT_REPOSITORY the same way E2E does, rather than hardcoding a default, so a local build with only a token set still cannot open issues anywhere. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
With nothing configured, compose mode points at `webiny/webiny-js`. That is fine for us and surprising for anyone else: their editor's page titles, URL and click timeline arrive prefilled in our issue composer, and the dialog never said so. It now reads "Goes to <owner/name> on GitHub." The admin app learns the repository because `Project.BugReporter` emits it as an admin build param alongside the API one. The token is not emitted that way and must not be, since an admin build param is serialized into the browser bundle. `DEFAULT_REPOSITORY` moved to `shared/repository.ts` so both bundles read one constant. Two copies would let the dialog name one repository while the API composed against another, which is worse than sharing a string. `BuildParams` is an optional dependency on purpose. It is registered only by the AdminBuildParam codegen, which runs only in projects that emit at least one admin build param, and the bug reporter ships in every project. Requiring it would have broken the dialog in exactly the unconfigured projects this line is for. Absent reads as "nothing configured", which is the default. Important
Merge webiny/extensions#3 first. This branch adds
yarn webiny extension bug-report-aito E2E. That extension reaches S3 only when #3 merges tomainand the upload workflow runs, so merging this first makes the step fail, on/e2eand on every push tonext.Points the bug reporter at a real repository in E2E, so the filing path gets exercised instead of only the compose fallback.
Why anything was needed
The reporter is already in every E2E project:
DefaultExtensionsputs<BugReporter />in every scaffolded config. But with no GitHub token it stays in compose mode, where it only builds a prefilledissues/newURL. Nothing had ever run the path that uploads screenshots and creates an issue. Two parts
BugReporteris now exported fromwebiny/extensions. It only existed on@webiny/bug-reporter, which a scaffolded project does not depend on, andwebiny/extensionsre-exported just the project-aws namespaces. The token and repository documented on<BugReporter.GitHub>were therefore unreachable to anyone outside this monorepo, CI included. Generated throughgenerate-webiny-package, soMergeExportsServicemerges it with the project-aws contribution.A step that edits the scaffolded
webiny.config.tsx, shared by all four variants (ddb, ddb+os, sqlite, postgres) across/e2eandpush. It writesprocess.env.BUG_REPORT_*into the config rather than baking values in, so what E2E runs is the setup a real project would write. The editing lives in
configureBugReporter.js, called through the repo's existingrunNodeScripthelper, so the workflow step is one readable line. It started as asedone-liner alongside the OpenSearch step next door, and that was wrong twice over: a shell command long enough to carry a JSX element gets folded into a>-scalar by the emitter, which is unreadable and depends on where the emitter chose to wrap, andsed 's|a|b|'that matches nothing exits 0, so a reshaped template would have deployed a project quietly missing the config. The script asserts both anchors, prints the file when one is gone, and is idempotent.Wiring
secrets.BUG_REPORT_GITHUB_TOKENvars.BUG_REPORT_REPOSITORYowner/nameto file intoBoth have to be repository-level, not under the
nextenvironment. The standalone variants deliberately run withoutenvironment: next(see the comment increateStandaloneJobs.ts), so an environment secret would reach the AWS jobs only and leave sqlite and postgres silently in compose mode. Both values are read while the API bundle is built, not at runtime, so
BUG_REPORTER_ENVsits on whichever step builds: job env for the AWS variants, the explicitBuild API and Adminenv for standalone.Set neither and the component emits no build param at all,
canFileDirectlystays false, and the project deploys in compose mode. Forks are unaffected.Scope the PAT to the repository in
vars.BUG_REPORT_REPOSITORY. It lands on the job env of the AWS project-setup jobs, and that workflow runs onissue_commentagainst PR head, so any branch someone runs/e2eon gets it in the environment. The AWS credentials and the Pulumi passphrase already sit in the same job env, so this is the existing trust boundary rather than a new one, but a fine-grained token limited to the one repository costs nothing.Verification
Being plain Node, the script runs anywhere, so it was exercised directly rather than reasoned about:
_templates/aws/ddb,aws/ddb-os,standalone/sqlite,standalone/postgres) — one insertion each, import landing after the last import so the block stays contiguous, component as the first child of the fragmentThe generated YAML was also checked against the wac sources: in all four variants across both workflows the configure step lands in the same job as the build it feeds and precedes it.

No Cypress spec. Nothing submits a report yet, so no issues get filed until one exists. The config is in place and deploys, which is what this unblocks.
No AI drafting. It cannot be wired from a secret. ai-powerups keeps provider keys as encrypted runtime settings in the database (
