invoke_endpoint_with_response_stream ended its span only after the caller read the whole stream. Breaking out of the loop, calling close() on the body, or an error event such as ModelStreamError left the span open, so it was never exported. StreamingWrapper now ends the span exactly once from a finally block and from close(), with what was read so far. An exception raised while iterating also sets error.type and an ERROR status, as the non-streaming path already does. Early termination keeps the Unset status, as the Bedrock converse_stream wrapper does. Signed-off-by: Christopher Krah <48338417+chrikrah@users.noreply.github.com>

Handle retained stream iterators explicitly.
If a caller retains iterator = iter(response["Body"]) and breaks from a loop over iterator, StreamingWrapper.__iter__ can remain suspended at yield event. Its finally block does not run until the generator resumes, is explicitly closed, or is finalized. response["Body"].close() does not close that retained generator.
Document that retained iterators must call iterator.close(), or change the lifecycle if retained-iterator early exit must end the span automatically. The current test covers direct iteration only.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Stop iteration after close() ends the span.
If the caller keeps an active iterator and calls body.close(), botocore can still yield events already buffered from a raw-stream chunk. StreamingWrapper.__iter__ then processes and returns those events after _done() has ended the span. Stop the wrapper iterator when the body closes so returned events cannot outlive their span. The test stream supplies all messages in one chunk, so it can exercise this case. (github.com)

invoke_endpoint_with_response_streamends its span in the callback thatStreamingWrapper.__iter__(packages/opentelemetry-instrumentation-sagemaker/opentelemetry/instrumentation/sagemaker/streaming_wrapper.py:20) calls after the last event. A caller that breaks out of the loop or callsclose()on the body never reaches it, and neither does a stream that raisesModelStreamErrorpartway. The span stays open and is never exported. No issue exists for this. Before, at 8d9c93f, with

Ending the span exactly once on break, close or raise follows_ConverseStreamCloserin the Bedrock package. On a raise the two differ: Bedrock leaves the span Unset, while this setserror.typeand ERROR the way SageMaker's own non-streaming path does (__init__.py:105-108), so aModelStreamErrorshows as a failed call.Verification
feat(instrumentation): ...orfix(instrumentation): ....@doronkopit5, a break keeps the Unset status, which I'd keep: the caller chose to stop, and Bedrock reports that case the same way. Marking it as an error would mean the wrapper catches
GeneratorExitand passes it tostream_done, a few lines. Should it?Summary by CodeRabbit
