Propagate cleanup failures and retain lifecycle state.
_remove_trace_processor() returns when the provider's processor list is unavailable, and set_trace_processors() can raise for a custom provider. _uninstrument() then clears its tracked state even though cleanup did not succeed. BaseInstrumentor.uninstrument() marks the instrumentor as uninstrumented only after _uninstrument() returns, so swallowing the failure allows false successful teardown and prevents retry.
Logging is not sufficient. Raise when the processor list is unavailable, and clear the tracked state only after removal succeeds. This preserves the base instrumented flag and lets a later call retry. The caller will receive the cleanup exception, which is the existing BaseInstrumentor failure behavior. The correction does not require a broader provider API redesign.

Summary
Fixes #4634.
OpenAIAgentsInstrumentor._instrument()registers anOpenTelemetryTracingProcessorwith the Agents SDK viaadd_trace_processor()(orset_trace_processors()whenreplace_existing_processors=True), but_uninstrument()only unwrapped the realtime session wrappers. The processor stayed registered, so runs were still traced afteruninstrument(), and everyinstrument()/uninstrument()cycle stacked another processor and recorded each span once per processor. The fix tracks the registered processor and removes it in
_uninstrument(). The Agents SDK exposes no enumerate/remove API, so the removal reads the default trace provider's internal multi-processor (guarded withgetattr; SDK versions whose internals differ simply no-op, matching the file's existing defensive style) and writes back through the publicset_trace_processors(). Processors the user added afterinstrument()are kept. One explicit choice worth a maintainer ruling: whenreplace_existing_processors=True, the processors that were replaced atinstrument()are restored onuninstrument().Also note:
BaseInstrumentoris a singleton whose__init__re-runs on every instantiation, so the tracking state lives in class attributes rather than__init__defaults that would be wiped betweeninstrument()anduninstrument().Tests
New
tests/test_uninstrument.py(4 tests): uninstrument removes the registered processor; user-added processors are kept; instrument/uninstrument cycles never duplicate the processor;replace_existing_processors=Truerestores the prior processor set. All 4 fail against the un-patched source and pass with the fix. Full package suite: 405 passed (uv run pytest tests/ --record-mode=none).uv run ruff check .clean.Summary by CodeRabbit
