Mac initializer

Set up a clean Mac with one script. Choose one section to install, or install everything.

Usage

git clone <repo-url> && cd mac-initializer
./init.me

The script asks for sudo first. Then it shows a menu.

Menu options

Option Action
1 Install RVM and the latest stable Ruby
2 Install Homebrew
3 Install Brew packages
4 Install Brew cask packages
5 Install Node (with n) and global NPM packages
6 Install Atom packages
7 Install Oh My Zsh
8 Link config files and aliases
9 Run options 1-5, 7 and 8 (Atom is skipped)
10 Update Brew, Node and global NPM packages, then clean caches
11 Clean caches

Choose what to install

The package lists are in init.me, in the funBrewPackages, funCaskPackages, funNPM and funAPM functions. Comment out a line to skip that package.

Config files

Option 8 links the files in dotfiles/ and .vim into $HOME:

  • .zshrc and .zshrc.d
  • .gitconfig and .gitignore
  • .vimrc and .vim
  • .screenrc, .bowerrc, .editorconfig, .git-mods and .osx

It also:

  • Applies the macOS settings in .osx.
  • Links ~/Dropbox/bash_aliases_private.zsh, if the file exists.
  • Adds the mac-init alias. Use it from any folder to run init.me again.

Warning: Option 8 moves your existing files to ~/.dotfiles_backup. It deletes the previous backup first. Copy the old backup somewhere else before you run option 8 again.
