What changed

Docs-only. No code or compose changes.

  • .env.example: a note at the top for server installs, and the GITLIB_BIND comment now says it is required to reach the app at http://<server-ip>:4000.
  • docs/runbook.md: the "if it does not load" line in the homelab install is now a short troubleshooting list (connection refused, timeout, wrong IP), including the sed + docker compose up -d fix.
  • README.md: the go-live note says to set GITLIB_BIND=0.0.0.0 on a server and links to the runbook.

Why

GITLIB_BIND defaults to 127.0.0.1, so a fresh Ubuntu server install built from the quick start is "connection refused" from other machines on the LAN, even though the containers are healthy. The runbook covered it, but only for people who read the full homelab section.

Notes for reviewers

  • The default stays 127.0.0.1 on purpose: the app has no login, so a 0.0.0.0 default would expose it on every interface of a laptop too.
  • Docs only; nothing was run or rendered. The README link anchor #3-homelab-install exists.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

The default GITLIB_BIND=127.0.0.1 publishes the port on the host only, so a
fresh server install is unreachable from other machines with "connection
refused". Keep the safe default, but call out the setting in .env.example,
add a troubleshooting list to the runbook's homelab install, and point the
README go-live note at it.
