I am a Uruguayan artist, researcher and computer scientist, currently living and working in Boulder, Colorado, and Montevideo, Uruguay. My practice moves across physical and digital media, artificial intelligence, interaction, data, music and installation. Across those forms, I am interested in how technologies shape the ways we understand the world, how they embody political and social arrangements, and how art can question—and sometimes intervene in—those arrangements.
I am Associate Professor of Critical Media Practices at the University of Colorado Boulder. My work combines artistic practice, academic research, software and instrument building, writing and teaching; previous appointments and collaborations have included the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Microsoft Research, Carnegie Mellon University and Universidad de la República.
