Migrate Telescope to Vue 3 and fix large HTTP responses - #705
Telescope still depends on Vue 2, Bootstrap 4, and jQuery. This moves the dashboard to Vue 3 using the same Options API and native Bootstrap patterns as Horizon, while preserving its existing screens and behavior.
This also fixes a framework configuration issue exposed by large dashboard responses: the inherited 2 MiB output limit caused Swoole to send HTTP headers and then reject the body. The fix removes that override and uses Swoole's native default. ResponseBridge, socket buffering, compression, and response framing are unchanged.
Dashboard changes
Upgrade Vue, Vue Router, Bootstrap, Vite, Vitest, and their supporting dependencies. Remove the Vue 2 plugin, jQuery, Popper 1, and the Vue clipboard wrapper.
Convert templates and lifecycle hooks to Vue 3. Keep the Options API, screen filenames, explicit component registration, and compiler-enabled mounting of the Blade shell.
Nest list and detail routes so sidebar sections remain highlighted on detail pages. Existing route names and URLs are preserved, including empty, root, and nested Telescope paths.
Keep request cancellation, stale-response protection, polling intervals, and preview state behavior. Search debounce and keyboard listeners now belong to the mounted screen and are released on navigation.
Use Bootstrap's native modal and dropdown APIs with owned cleanup. Direct clipboard calls retain plain-HTTP copying and the existing manual fallback.
Update both themes and JSON rendering styles, and rebuild the complete distributed assets. Applications continue to receive ready-to-use assets through Composer.
Bugs fixed
The migration also corrects several dashboard issues:
Highlighted exception source containing HTML was interpreted as markup instead of displayed as text.
Tags containing URL delimiters were sent incorrectly to the API.
Clicking a tag containing a comma searched for separate fragments. Tag links now match the literal tag, while typed comma-separated searches keep their existing behavior.
Related-entry overflow omitted the final entry types, and tab selection discarded router history state.
Reply-To, CC, and BCC rows checked the wrong location in recorded mail data.
Cache values such as zero, false, and empty strings hid the value panel.
Scheduled-entry tag links led to the Requests list.
Failed query loads could attempt to highlight a missing element.
Monitored tags used incorrect list keys and could produce duplicate rows.
The response-size correction is applied to the framework defaults, generated skeleton configurations, and the matching benchmark fixture. A real process-mode HTTP regression verifies that a body larger than the old limit arrives intact with the correct Content-Length.
Build and maintenance
Telescope retains its standalone npm setup in this PR. The shared JavaScript workspace migration is a separate change. CI now builds the dashboard after its component tests, and the contribution guide documents dashboard installation, testing, and rebuilding.
The retired _archive/docs/0.3 tree is removed. This does not change the maintained 0.3 branch.
Validation
PHP formatting and static analysis passed, together with the affected HTTP-server and Telescope suites and the skeleton configuration check.
A clean npm installation, the complete Telescope component tests, the production build, and the dependency audit passed.
Browser checks used the real Blade shell and compiled assets served through Swoole. They covered every populated list and detail screen, both themes, base paths, sidebar selection, direct links and history navigation, filtering, pagination, polling, JSON inspection, dumps, copying, and dialogs.
The dashboard requires no new runtime asset downloads. The complete rendered page is slightly smaller in both raw and compressed form, with timezone data and SQL dialect support retained.
Define two sequential PRs: migrate Telescope to Vue 3 using Horizon as the concrete coding reference, then consolidate framework JavaScript development under Vite+, pnpm workspaces, and dependency catalogs.
Document component ownership, lifecycle cleanup, UI dependency changes, verified defects, and regression coverage for the dashboard migration. Preserve Laravel-compatible PHP APIs and recognizable upstream structure so future Telescope updates remain straightforward to port.
Specify workspace membership, shared commands, dependency policy, CI verification, and advisory checks. Keep application skeletons independently installable and continue shipping committed framework assets through unchanged subtree splits. Include source references, implementation examples, browser checks, packaging verification, and performance safeguards.
Specify component-owned debounce and modal cleanup, the search shortcut correction, and focused regression coverage. Keep third-party rendering and unchanged grouping behavior in the browser verification pass, and pair the Horizon cleanup with its Bootstrap upgrade and shared test setup.
Use the documented Vite+ and pnpm configuration for shared dependencies, runtime selection, and a regenerated single-document lockfile. Remove redundant catalogs and audit machinery, document the narrow alias metadata mismatch, and require explicit dependency and asset verification.
Move the authorized archived documentation removal into the first PR. Define the proposed frontend formatting exception, upstream comparison procedure, and standard blame metadata while keeping formatting and the Porting Policy edit subject to explicit owner approval.
Bring the Telescope migration branch up to date with the maintained 0.4 branch before implementation. Preserve the reviewed migration plan alongside the latest framework changes.
Delete the retired documentation site, its static assets, and its JavaScript manifest and lockfile from the 0.4 development tree. This removes inactive dependency metadata from the repository while retaining the archived content in Git history.
Keep the maintained documentation and other archives intact. This commit contains only the archived 0.3 documentation deletion.
Record removal of the inherited output-size cap as the framework prerequisite for the dashboard migration. Preserve native response completion, compression, and framing instead of introducing a PHP chunking layer.
Describe the component-less route parents needed to preserve sidebar selection under Router 4, along with real-route and process-mode delivery verification. Keep the framework fix and dashboard migration within one combined review boundary.
Stop overriding Swoole's native output-size default with a 2 MiB cap. The override rejected larger process-mode responses after their headers had been sent, leaving clients with an empty body.
Regenerate both application skeleton configurations and remove the matching benchmark fixture override. Leave socket buffering and ResponseBridge unchanged, preserving native compression and Content-Length handling.
Add a bounded process-mode loopback regression that reads the shipped settings and verifies an intact 3 MB response. The regression fails with the old override; HTTP-server tests and configuration synchronization checks pass without it.
Move the dashboard to Vue 3, Router 4, Bootstrap 5, Vue Test Utils 2, and supported Vite and Vitest releases. Replace the Vue 2 plugin and clipboard wrapper, remove jQuery and Popper 1, and declare the compiler, renderer, and Popper peers used by the new dependencies.
Use the Vue 3 plugin and Vite's current Rolldown configuration while retaining the existing inline asset filenames. Declare Node versions supported by the full dependency graph and preserve the release-age and install-script policies.
A clean npm installation, production build, component tests, and dependency audit pass. The shared Vite+ workspace remains a separate change.
Use createApp and Vue Router 4 with the compiler-enabled Vue build required by the Blade shell. Retain explicit component registration, root-owned preferences, CSRF setup, and recording controls.
Nest each list and detail route beneath a component-less parent so detail pages keep their sidebar section active under Router 4. Preserve all existing route names, URLs, base-path handling, and redirects.
Add a regression using the real route definitions and RouterLink components. Browser verification covers every section, direct links, history navigation, and empty, root, standard, and nested Telescope paths.
Move request, timer, and keyboard-listener cleanup into Vue 3 unmount hooks. Give each index screen its own cancellable search debounce so a queued search cannot affect the next screen after navigation.
Use axios query parameters to preserve tags containing URL delimiters, and replace jQuery time-label updates with component-scoped text updates. Keep polling intervals, cancellation ownership, stale-response guards, and preview parent mirroring intact.
Cover filtering, navigation, automatic loading, pending jobs, retry behavior, preview reuse, exception resolution, dump initialization, and cleanup with focused component tests. Correct authenticated-user table markup for Vue 3 rendering.
Use Bootstrap's native Modal and Dropdown instances with component-owned cleanup. Hide non-animated modals before disposal, release listeners and timers, and preserve the existing nested-modal scroll state without a global registry.
Call copy-to-clipboard directly to preserve HTTP support and its manual fallback. Prevent anchor navigation and show success only when copying succeeds.
Expose every related-entry overflow tab and retain router history state when selecting tabs. Correct monitored-tag keys, avoid duplicate rows, and provide valid table markup and modal labels.
Component and browser checks cover confirmation and cancellation, focus, repeated use, unmount cleanup, conditional dropdown disposal, clipboard contents, and actual fallback behavior.
The highlighted source line bypassed syntax highlighting and was inserted directly through v-html. Source containing HTML could therefore become live markup in exception and failed-job previews.
Render the highlighted line through Vue text interpolation while retaining highlight.js's escaped output for other lines. Add a regression proving that both paths display the original source without creating injected elements.
Convert every screen to Vue 3 named and scoped slots while preserving its existing filenames, Options API structure, table rows, and feature behavior. Remove obsolete script attributes, unused imports, empty options, and unnecessary slot wrappers.
Read mail address collections from the recorded content and omit empty rows. Show cache value panels for recorded false, zero, empty, and null values. Use the schedule resource for scheduled-entry previews so their tag links return to the right list, and avoid highlighting an absent query element after a failed load.
Port the original SQL preview assertions to Vue Test Utils 2 and add focused coverage for the corrected detail behavior. Verify every populated list and preview in the compiled dashboard.
Update the Blade shell's directional spacing utilities and configure Bootstrap 5 for Telescope's existing separate light and dark stylesheets. Preserve table backgrounds, muted text, link styling, and the intended small batch badges.
Use Vue 3 transition classes and the current vue-json-pretty selectors. Remove obsolete animation prefixes and stylesheet rules for retired JSON markup rather than retaining a compatibility layer.
Visual browser checks cover both themes, populated detail panels, JSON expansion, navigation, and native Bootstrap controls.
Extend the existing Telescope JavaScript job with a production build so template and asset compilation failures are checked alongside component behavior.
Document standalone npm installation, build, and watch commands for Horizon and Telescope, plus Telescope's component-test command and the supported development runtime. Preserve the existing policy that maintainers regenerate distributed assets before merging contributor changes.
Generate all four distributed dashboard assets from the migrated source and updated dependency lockfile. Preserve the filenames consumed by Telescope's inline PHP rendering without introducing external chunks or runtime toolchain requirements.
Verify the real Blade shell through a process-mode Swoole server in both themes and all supported base-path forms. The complete rendered page remains slightly smaller in raw and compressed form, with full timezone data and SQL dialect support retained.
Mark the framework response fix and Telescope migration as implemented and verified. Retain the post-merge alert and upstream-sync follow-up, the formatting approval requirement, and the separate shared-tooling implementation as the remaining work.
The pull request migrates Telescope’s dashboard to Vue 3 and Bootstrap 5, updates dashboard routes and screens, adds component tests and a CI asset-build step, and documents development workflows. It also removes the configured Swoole output-buffer limit and adds a large-response test.
Changes: Server response buffer correction
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Remove the output-buffer setting and test large responses src/foundation/config/server.php, skeletons/*/config/server.php, tests/Benchmarks/Sentry/Fixtures/app/config/server.php, tests/HttpServer/*
The server configurations no longer set the 2 MiB output-buffer size. A loopback test checks a 3,000,000-byte response. The plan describes the correction and regression test.
The dashboard uses Vue 3 tooling and app/router APIs. Listing and preview routes are grouped under parent routes, and route tests check navigation paths and active links.
Migrate shared components and lifecycle behavior src/telescope/resources/js/base.js, src/telescope/resources/js/components/*
Shared components use Vue 3 lifecycle hooks and Bootstrap APIs. Updates cover modals, dropdowns, clipboard copying, search, request handling, previews, and related-entry tabs. Component tests cover these behaviors.
Update dashboard screens and preview rendering src/telescope/resources/js/screens/*
Dashboard screens use Vue named-slot syntax and Bootstrap 5 utility classes. Preview changes and tests cover cache values, mail addresses, query highlighting, and schedule resources.
Sass and layout styles are updated. CI builds Telescope assets after dashboard tests. Contributor guidance and the plan describe dashboard build workflows, migration checks, and a later workspace/tooling phase.

To help optimise your usage, you can tune cubic to get the most out of your usage limits:
• Migrate Telescope to Vue 3 and Bootstrap 5 while preserving dashboard routes and behavior.
• Fix dashboard rendering and navigation defects, and remove the server’s restrictive
response-output limit.
• Rebuild shipped assets and add component, routing, build, and real-server regression coverage.
Keeping Telescope's Options API and screen boundaries while updating its runtime is preferable to a simultaneous Composition API or workspace rewrite: it limits migration risk and preserves a recognizable path for upstream fixes. Removing the output-limit override is narrower than changing response framing or buffering.

Tags may contain commas, but the existing search parser treats every comma as an OR separator. Add an explicit exact-tag option while preserving the existing tag API and default comma-separated search behavior.
Use a single indexed tag subquery for both modes and remove the redundant nested lookup. Cover request parsing and complete result sets through the HTTP endpoint, including ordinary reordered and whitespace-separated searches.
Mark generated tag links for exact matching so clicking a comma-containing tag finds its own entries without also selecting entries tagged with individual fragments.
Carry the option in route state through list loads and new-entry polling. Clear it when editing the search field so comma-separated searches retain their existing meaning. Verify links, request parameters, route changes and debounced editing in the existing component tests.
Document the distinction between clicked tags and typed searches, and rebuild the distributable dashboard JavaScript.
Recommend Node.js 24 at version 24.15 or later, matching the supported runtime line used by CI.
The previous wording could be read as recommending any newer major version, including versions outside Telescope's declared engine range. Keep the npm requirement unchanged.
Describe literal matching for generated tag links, the additive query option, and preservation of ordinary comma-separated searches.
Record the single-subquery implementation and focused HTTP and component coverage so the remaining plan reflects the final tag-filter design. Keep the shared Vite+ workspace work in its separate second part.
