Describe the bug

Ever since the introduction of vertical scroll bar, around 50-2? THe text stopped rendering correctly on my screen.

I am using Windows and Windows Console Host or Terminal do not make a difference.

Copilot itself cannot self-help, I tried asking to disable the scroll bar, doesn't know, cannot do it. Here's some examples of poorly placed text:

I have the same issue on Linux with every terminal emulator I've tried.

The width of the scrollbar isn't correctly accounted for when rendering lines, which causes them to overflow. This isn't just a visual error, but actually prevents scrolling to the bottom of the chat history due to accumulated extra lines (the more overflowing lines there are in the visible region, the more of the bottom of the chat history is obscured).

Same problem here on Linux (iTerm2 + tmux), v1.0.61. The scrollbar track sits in the rightmost column of the timeline, and any mouse selection for the system clipboard pulls the track glyphs into the copied text — so I can't cleanly copy a response without the scrollbar contaminating it.

I dug through the shipped bundle to find a toggle to control scrollbar behavior, and confirmed there currently isn't one:

• Settings schema
• Environment variables — none of the COPILOT_* vars contains a scrollbar/track toggle.
• Experimental flags — /experimental only gates BACKGROUND_SESSIONS, COLLECT_DEBUG_LOGS, COPILOT_GITHUB_THEME, MCP_REGISTRY_INSTALL. Nothing UI-related.

Interestingly, the bundle shows ScrollBox component takes showScrollbar, and documents this with — showScrollbar={false} → "same scrolling, no track." It's just hardcoded and not available for tweaking.

Requested fix:

Expose as a user setting, e.g. /settings set showScrollbar false (persisted in settings.json). Scrolling behavior can stay the same but the track can be dropped.

I tried a workaround with --no-mouse , but that kills scroll-wheel and not a viable solution.

The scrollbar renders fine for me but it ruins paste-ability of the screen contents. Every line pasted has a bunch of spaces and then a vertical bar at the end.

Another argument to make the scrollbar optional.

/copy helps somewhat, but it only works for the latest response.

/share is inconvenient, dumping the whole session and making me go sift through a file.

There's now a working toggle (as of v1.0.68, or maybe earlier): the setting key is scrollbar.

After a restart the scrollbar track is gone. In my case this was contaminating clipboard copies — selecting a response pulled the trailing ┃ (U+2503) glyph and padding spaces into every line. With the scrollbar off, copies are clean and scrolling still works.
