Reviewed the two remaining warnings as well:
The oversized-packet finding has a separate inline reply with the pinned Chromium source trace. No production code change was justified by these comments. Also, the full native suite is now verified on a GitHub Mac runner: 69 Swift tests passed, zero failures, followed by the release build of both helpers. Native CI result. All 11 applicable jobs in the fork CI run passed, including the macOS/Linux compositor tests and Windows compositor check. The PR-title job is skipped on a push event. The upstream PR workflows still need maintainer approval. |

Thanks for this, and for the before/after recordings and the numbers. The core path looks right to me: keeping AudioData's capture timestamps, clipping pauses by capture time and draining the tail on stop is the careful way to do it, and the native path is untouched when the option is off.
A few things before we can merge:
- No hint line under the toggle. We don't put explanatory sentences under settings. Please drop the
hudModalHintline inHudDeviceSettings.tsx(around L217). The label alone should carry it. - Hide the toggle when the microphone is off. It does nothing then. In the HUD it currently follows
showMicrophone(mic available), and inRecStage.tsx(L524)canRecordMicrophone(). Please gate both on the microphone being enabled. - Localize the error messages. The strings thrown in
echoCancelledMicrophone.ts(L25, 45, 72, 78) reach users throughtoast.error(error.message). "Turn off Cancel speaker echo" in particular is UI copy. Please route them throught(...)with keys in all locales. - Single-take helper exit during stop. In
ScreenCaptureRecorder.swift(~L1373)stopnow runs in an un-awaitedTaskso the loop keeps reading microphone packets. Good, but if stdin hits EOF while the stop is still draining or finalizing, the loop ends, await stopTask.valuereturns and the process exits mid-write. Before this change the awaited stop kept EOF from being read. Keeping a handle on the stop task and awaiting it after the loop would fix it.
Two design questions, not blockers:
- A microphone error mid-take (e.g. a Bluetooth mic dropping) now stops the whole recording. Could it instead finish the take without the mic and warn, like the native path does?
- If
echoCancellation: "all"isn't granted, the take refuses to start. Would falling back to the native microphone with a warning be safer, given only macOS 27 has been tested?
Minor: with maxBufferSize: 50, an IPC stall over ~500 ms silently drops frames. A timestamp-gap warning in the renderer would make that visible.
On our side we'll run a pass on an M1 before merging: echo leakage, near-end voice preservation, system-audio level (ducking), A/V offset, drift over a 30-minute take, CPU with the option on vs off, pause/restart/cancel, device and output route changes mid-take, and both capture paths (Apple's picker and the in-app one).

HudDeviceSettingsis wrapped inmemo. The comment at Line 1144 requires stable prop identity so the panel does not re-render on every parent render, including the elapsed-time updates during a recording. The other callbacks passed to the panel useuseCallback. This change passes a new object literal and a new inlineonChangearrow on every render. As a result, the memo boundary never holds while the panel is open and the microphone is on, and the panel re-renders wheneverLaunchWindowrenders.Build the prop with

cheers for the careful review! I’ve pushed the requested changes: removed the HUD hint, hidden both controls while the microphone is off, localized the messages across all 15 locales, and retained/awaited the stop task at EOF. I reproduced the EOF bug with the real helper: four cases produced unreadable MP4s before the fix. All six cases now finalize and fully decode Microphone-only loss now warns and keeps screen/system recording running. Timestamp gaps warn once per take. Real Mac tests confirmed both behaviors. Review also caught and fixed a cleanup hang when a pipe write stalls. I kept startup failure explicit when system-wide AEC is unavailable. Falling back automatically could restore the doubled voice the user enabled this option to remove. The translated error explains how to disable it and retry; the feature remains opt-in. Your M1 pass will add useful coverage. These short M2 checks don’t establish long-run drift, device/route changes, physical playback level or Apple’s picker behavior |

Quick update on the M2 checks I mentioned above: I’ve since run a longer
All 11 completed recordings fully decode. Some short takes had startup Apple’s picker, external microphone/disconnect tests and independent M1 |

Summary
When recording a conversation through Mac speakers, system audio captures the reply directly and the microphone adds a delayed second copy. Add an opt-in Cancel speaker echo setting in the HUD's device settings and the editor's Record panel. The control appears while the microphone is enabled and keeps its saved choice when the microphone is off. It defaults to off while device and route-change coverage remains limited; opt-in is deliberate for this first version.
The microphone uses Chromium's system-wide echo canceller (
echoCancellation: { exact: "all" }), already available in the pinned Electron 41.2.1. Native screen and system-audio capture stay in place; the existing mixer receives processed mono PCM and applies the existing microphone gain. No DSP dependency is added.AudioData's host capture timestamps keep microphone audio aligned with native capture. Pause/resume clips delayed audio by capture time, and stop drains audio captured before the take ended. IPC checks the recording and sender, validates bounded packets, and waits for each pipe write. Microphone-only loss warns and keeps screen/system recording running; recorder-write failures stop the take. Timestamp gaps warn once per take. If system-wide AEC is unavailable at startup, a localized error explains how to disable the option and retry. Errors and warnings are translated in all 15 locales.

dd9ad40b): all 11 applicable jobs, including 69 Swift tests with zero failures, both helper release builds, macOS/Linux compositor tests and the Windows compositor check. CI skips six FFmpeg-dependent cases that pass locally; its unit result is 4,856 passed / 7 skipped. The PR-title job is skipped for push events.Fresh short Mac checks (20 October) covered AEC on/off, known speaker playback with verified nonzero microphone samples, pause/resume, microphone-track loss and two forced queue stalls. Mic loss kept recording running; repeated gaps produced one warning. All four saved files fully decoded. A separate generated-audio test filled the helper pipe and verified capture cleanup after the recorder’s 30-second timeout. These checks establish integration behavior, not new acoustic-quality measurements.
The stop-plus-EOF regression reproduced four unreadable MP4s before the fix. Afterward, all six native cases finalized and fully decoded, including ordinary stop and repeated stop with microphone transport on/off. The blocked-write cleanup test also failed before its fix and passed afterward.
The CoreMedia range-copy regression failed before adding interleaved sample-size metadata and passed afterward. Tests cover capture timestamps, microphone cleanup, persistence, and pause/stop clipping.
Checks run:
npx tsc --noEmit,npx tsc -p tsconfig.test.json --noEmit,npm run test, npm run lint, npm run i18n:check,npm run build-vite,swift test --package-path electron/native/screencapturekit, andswift build -c release --package-path electron/native/screencapturekit. Hardware tests used an M2 MacBook Air on macOS 27.0.1.Remaining checks: Computer-use automation was unavailable, so the app checks used CDP and the CLI. Apple's system-picker UI, external audio devices, long recordings, and route changes remain unverified. Upstream PR CI awaits maintainer approval; the fork run above tests the same commit.
