Problem and outcome

Exchanges and integrators are reading the public docs, which still describe GenLayer Chain as a zkSync Elastic Chain / ZK Stack L2. Consensus v0.6 runs on a custom-gas-token Arbitrum Orbit chain that settles to Ethereum, with GEN as the native gas token. The staking and keeper pages also predate the v0.6 contracts.

This PR replaces every zkSync description of the chain, expands the GenLayer Chain integration page into an integrator-oriented overview, rewrites the inflation-relayer keeper flow for Orbit, and corrects the staking guide against the v0.6 contracts.

Non-goals: publishing Orbit testnet endpoints or contract addresses (Asimov/Bradbury still serve their pre-v0.6 chain), regenerating CLI/SDK references, editing historical changelogs.

Changes

Arbitrum Orbit instead of zkSync

  • core-concepts/rollup-integration: GenLayer Chain as Arbitrum Orbit; new sections on GEN (ERC-20 on Ethereum, native asset on the chain), retryable deposits / Outbox withdrawals, ArbSys block numbers, fees, an integrator checklist, and sequencer inclusion vs Ethereum settlement vs protocol finality.
  • what-is-genlayer, FAQ, developers/networks: chain description; zks_* passthrough removed; callout that Asimov and Bradbury keep their current endpoints until they upgrade to v0.6.
  • validators/setup-guide: "ZKSync Full Node" → GenLayer Chain HTTP + WebSocket RPC (provider or Nitro full node); doctor wording; config placeholders.
  • api-references/genlayer-node (+ template): dropped the zksync_ proxy section.
  • validators/upgrade, .github/scripts/sanitize-config.sh, content/validators/config.yaml, scripts/retrofit/retrofit.js: wording/placeholders.

Keeper roles (validators/network-keeper-roles)

  • Inflation relay is now: Staking request via ArbSys → Outbox execution after confirmation → GEN.executeInflationRequest (1-day approval) → retryable delivery to the inflation escrow → Outbox acknowledgement. Percentage incentive replaced by the capped gas reimbursement (KeeperRewardPaid). Burn flow and tooling updated; private-repo script pointer replaced with Arbitrum's public messaging guides.

Staking (v0.6 contracts, checked against genlayer-consensus main)

  • validatorJoin(operatorPubKey, possessionProof); old overloads removed.
  • validatorView is a struct; exits sized with validatorSelfSharesOf.
  • Validator claims go through validatorWallet.validatorClaim() (the permissionless Staking claim pays the wallet).
  • No payable delegatorDeposit (top up with delegatorJoin); delegatorClaim is delegator-only.
  • Claims wait for pricing and slash settlement; epoch 1 skip depends on delivered inflation; two-step operator transfer; troubleshooting errors refreshed; broken CLI anchor fixed.

Guards: check-v06-release-docs now forbids zkSync / ZK Stack wording on these pages and the removed staking forms.

Intentionally unchanged: the zksync RPC rate-limit group in the synced node config (node v0.5.14 still ships it), the MockZkSyncBridgeCallFailedToL2 contract error name, the Heurist partner page (Heurist's own stack), and historical changelogs.

Implementation and validation

  • npm run check:protocol-docs, npm run check:v06-release-docs: OK.
  • npm run build: OK; setup-guide config and node API generators produce no drift.
  • Facts verified against genlayer-consensus main (GENOrbit, ArbitrumGENBridge, ArbitrumInflationEscrow, staking facets), genlayer-node v0.6-dev/v0.5, and genlayer-js/cli releases.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated network documentation to describe GenLayer Chain as an EVM-compatible Arbitrum Orbit chain that settles to Ethereum and uses GEN for gas.
    • Expanded rollup integration guidance covering bridging, transfers, withdrawals, fees, receipts, and finality.
    • Updated staking and unstaking guides with operator-key proofs, delegation, exits, claims, slashing, epochs, and troubleshooting details.
    • Clarified validator keeper workflows, RPC references, migration guidance, and network architecture.
    • Removed outdated zkSync-specific compatibility and operational guidance.

GenLayer Chain moved from its ZK Stack deployment to a custom-gas-token
Arbitrum Orbit chain that settles to Ethereum, with GEN as the native gas
token (consensus v0.6). Replace every zkSync / ZK Stack description of the
chain and expand the GenLayer Chain integration page with what exchanges
and integrators need: GEN as an ERC-20 on Ethereum and native asset on the
chain, retryable deposits and Outbox withdrawals, ArbSys block numbers,
Arbitrum receipt fields, and the difference between sequencer inclusion,
Ethereum settlement and protocol finality.

Asimov and Bradbury still serve their pre-v0.6 chain endpoints, so the
Networks page keeps them and states that they move to Orbit with v0.6
rather than publishing the unreleased Orbit testnet endpoints.

The node API reference drops the zks_* proxy section; validator setup
now asks for GenLayer Chain HTTP + WebSocket RPC (provider or Nitro full
node). The sanitized config placeholders no longer say ZKSync. The
zksync rate-limit group keys stay because node v0.5.14 still ships them
and the block is synced from the node repository.
The inflation relayer no longer proves zkSync batches through
GEN.executeL2Message. On Orbit the round trip is: Staking request via
ArbSys, Outbox execution after assertion confirmation, permissionless
GEN.executeInflationRequest within the one-day approval, retryable
delivery to the inflation escrow, and an Outbox acknowledgement before
the next request. The percentage incentive is replaced by a capped gas
reimbursement minted on top of the tranche. Burns are native ArbSys
withdrawals completed through the Outbox. The private-repo script
pointer is replaced by Arbitrum's public messaging guides.
Checked against genlayer-consensus main (v0.6):
- validatorJoin takes the operator public key and a possession proof;
the no-argument and address overloads no longer exist.
- validatorView returns a struct; size exits with validatorSelfSharesOf.
- Staking.validatorClaim pays the ValidatorWallet; owners claim through
validatorWallet.validatorClaim(), which forwards to the owner.
- There is no payable delegatorDeposit; top up with delegatorJoin.
- delegatorClaim is callable only by the delegator.
- Claims also wait for pricing and slash settlement, and epoch 1 is
skipped only when inflation for epoch 2 has already been delivered.
- Operator rotation is a delayed two-step transfer.
Fixes the broken CLI staking anchor and refreshes the troubleshooting
table with the current error names.
Extend check-v06-release-docs to forbid zkSync / ZK Stack wording on the
chain, network, keeper, node API and staking pages, require the Orbit
inflation call and the join possession proof, and reject the removed
validatorView array layout and payable delegatorDeposit. The staking
guide and GenLayer Chain integration page join the internal-link check.

Address review on #671:
- Networks and setup guide label the listed chain endpoint as the
pre-v0.6 testnet chain and limit the Nitro full-node option to
  networks running v0.6.
- Native GEN deposits through the Inbox are credited on inclusion and do
not create a retryable; retryables apply to messages and contract calls
  such as inflation delivery.
- The inflation relayer's "When to call" list now includes failed
retryable redemption (redeem or keepalive) and deferred escrow delivery
  (ArbitrumInflationEscrow.retry()).
Main now documents Bradbury Phase 2 on the Arbitrum Orbit chain (Asimov
dropped, node v0.6.0-rc.1, Conduit RPC keys). Resolution keeps main's
network, validator setup, config and sanitizer content, and keeps this
PR's additions on top: the integration-page link and "settles to
Ethereum / native GEN" wording on Networks and the setup guide, the
Orbit text in the retrofit prompt, and removal of the zks_* passthrough
section from the node API reference. The pre-v0.6 Asimov/Bradbury
caveats from this PR are dropped as obsolete, and the integration-page
callout now names Bradbury Phase 2.
