Summary

#1324 started recording each day a person is seen (user_active_days) but left those days out of the data export. They're personal data: the data guidelines put everything stored about a user in CreateExport, and GDPR access and portability cover activity history. The export now includes them, so "You can export your data" on the privacy page covers them too.

Changes

  • Export: a new top-level active_days key with the dates the person was seen (YYYY-MM-DD), oldest first. It's an added key, so schema_version stays 4, as with claimed_organizations. The days are read while the export streams, like commits and stars, so an export that is someone's first visit of the day includes that day: the middleware records the visit once the controller returns, before the stream starts.
  • Docs: KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md (the export inventory and the active-people paragraph), PRODUCT_METRICS.md (what is stored), and the comment of the feat: record each day a person is seen, for retention by signup cohort #1324 migration. The migration's code is unchanged.

Validation

All local, on a throwaway Postgres (pgvector/pgvector:pg18):

  • composer test:lint: pass
  • composer test:types (PHPStan): pass
  • composer test:type-coverage: 100%
  • pest --parallel --coverage --exactly=100.0: 5,134 passed, 100% coverage
  • New tests check the ordering, that other people's days are left out, and that an export that is the first visit of the day includes it.
  • On GitHub, tests fails on 3 tests in LookUpUserOrganizationsTest, the same as on production since fix: skip organizations that restrict what GitHub shows, instead of failing every lookup #1327; unrelated to this change.

No UI change, so no visual evidence.

Independent review

Independent agent review of base 4d0dcee6 and head ca6e61fe: PASS.

Re-review of 9442776f (days read lazily, after CodeRabbit found that an export on the first visit of the day missed it): PASS. It checked that the stream is sent after the middleware writes, under FPM and Octane, and that the new test fails with the eager version.

Limitations

None.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Personal-data exports now include the account’s recorded active days in oldest-to-newest order, along with the last recorded active date. The export includes only the account being exported and includes the current day when it is the account’s first visit that day.
  • Documentation
    • Updated export and activity-tracking information to clarify that active days are included in account exports and deleted when the account is deleted.

Walkthrough

The personal data export now includes the signed-in user's active-day dates in oldest-first order. Documentation and tests describe the active_days field and its contents.

Changes: Active days export

app/Actions/CreateExport.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/ExportControllerTest.php, KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md, PRODUCT_METRICS.md, database/migrations/2026_10_30_120000_create_user_active_days_table.php
The export adds the signed-in user's seen_at values as active_days, ordered oldest first. Tests check the ordering, exclude another user's dates, and check inclusion of today. Documentation describes the export field. The migration comment is updated; migration behavior is unchanged.

- Line 109: Update CreateExport::handle so the export request’s activity is
recorded before it reads user_active_days, rather than relying on
UpdateLastSeenAt’s after-response write; preserve the middleware’s prefetch and
partial-reload exclusions and success check. Add a regression test that exports
on a day with no prior activity and verifies today is included in active_days.
