Summary

When someone is live, the LIVE badge on their avatar hangs below its ring, and the graph line leaving the avatar runs over it: the canvas only cuts a circle per node out of its lines.

Changes

  • A graph node also cuts out what it marks data-graph-overhang, measured with it and grown by the ring the attribute gives.
  • The LIVE badge on an avatar is marked so, with its 2px ring.
  • When an overhang appears or disappears inside a node while the page is open (its user goes live or ends the stream), the canvas measures again. The badge is out of the layout, so nothing else triggers that. Only this mutation triggers it, not every mutation inside a node.

Validation

  • Playwright, a user made live locally, counting the lane's pixels inside the LIVE badges on their avatars: 144 in Chrome and 156 in WebKit on production, none on this branch, in light and dark.
  • Playwright, a badge added to then removed from an avatar already on the graph: before the last commit, the badge never gets a cut-out (0 → 0 → 0) in Chrome or WebKit. With it, the cut-out appears and then goes (0 → 1 → 0).
  • tsc, lint, format, node tests (206) and Vitest (722) pass locally. No PHP change.
  • My Playwright suite for the graph: 497/497 in Chrome on the first commit.
  • After the last commit, --fast run on built assets: 306/307.
    • The one failure was a "ResizeObserver loop" warning in reduced; that scenario was clean on 3 reruns.
    • The two server-rendering scenarios need the Vite dev server, so they didn't run.
    • delete fails about one run in three with and without the last commit. Nobody is live in that suite, so the new code doesn't run there.

Visual evidence

Chrome, desktop, same data, the avatar of a live user on their profile. Before: production. After: this branch.

Device verification

macOS, Chrome and WebKit through Playwright. No mobile interaction changes.

Independent review

  • Separate Claude agent, base fa8d5407, head 4220b5c5 (since then only a doc comment reworded on its suggestion, and the commit footer to be removed): CODE: PASS, VISUAL: PASS.
  • Last commit: separate Claude agent, base 697a0eae, head e2f44180 (since then only a code comment reworded on its suggestion): CODE: PASS. Visual review doesn't apply: the static rendering is unchanged, and the Playwright badge check above covers the live toggle.

Limitations

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Live badges now support standard span attributes, allowing additional styling and behavior to be applied.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Graph node clipping now accounts for badges that extend beyond node boundaries, keeping overhanging live markers visible without disrupting the graph’s row clipping.

The LIVE badge hangs off the bottom of a live user's avatar, past the
ring the graph canvas cuts out of its lines, so the line leaving the
avatar ran over the badge. A node now also cuts out what it marks
data-graph-overhang, measured with it and grown by the ring around it,
and the badge on an avatar is marked so.

Not unit-tested: the unit tests have no DOM, and nodes are only measured
in a browser. Checked with Playwright, counting the lane's pixels inside
the badges of a live user's avatars: 144 in Chrome and 156 in WebKit
before, none after, in light and dark.

Walkthrough

This change adds support for marked graph-node overhangs. The LIVE badge forwards the overhang attribute, GraphCanvas measures and stores the overhang bounds, and the SVG node mask includes corresponding rounded rectangles.

Changes: LIVE badge graph masking

GraphNode gains optional overhang data. LiveBadge forwards span props, and LiveAvatarMarker sets data-graph-overhang="2".
Measure and mask graph overhangs

Comment thread resources/js/components/graph-canvas.tsx
The badge sits out of the layout, so adding or removing it resizes
nothing, and the mutation observer only measured when a node itself
came or went: the lines ran over a new badge, or left a hole where one
had been, until the next measure.

The observer now also measures when a mutation inside a node adds or
removes an overhang. Measuring on every mutation inside a node, as
suggested in review, would also fire on unrelated changes there; this
keeps to the one change that moves a cut-out.
