Summary

Profiles had no back control. The new arrow in the profile header returns to the previous page, falling back to the viewer's log (or home for guests) when there is no history.

Validation

  • bun run test:lint pass
  • bun run test:types pass

Changes

  • New useGoBack hook: goes back with the Navigation API, falls back to history.length, then to the log or home.
  • New ProfileBackButton in the profile header.
  • The commit page reuses the hook.

Visual evidence

After only, since production doesn’t have this yet, I’ve shared the after view only.

Limitations

The back arrow only navigates within the app. When a profile or commit is opened directly (for example from a shared link), it takes the viewer to their log, or home for guests, instead of sending them off-site. Viewers can still leave with the browser's own back button. Profile tabs add history entries, so back returns to the previous tab first.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an accessible back button to the profile header. It returns to the previous page when available, or navigates to an appropriate fallback page.
    • Back navigation on profile and commit pages now follows the same behavior, including when no previous page is available.
  • Style
    • Updated the commit page’s back button spacing and alignment.

Walkthrough

The commit page now uses a shared back-navigation hook. The user profile page adds a back button to its sticky header. The hook checks browser navigation state and uses the home or current-log route when no previous entry is available.

The back button can do nothing at the start of a forward-only history, or open home or the viewer’s log instead of returning to an external site. These navigation issues are bounded; fix them or explicitly accept them before merging.

Explanation

The title "feat: add back navigation to profiles" matches the main change. The PR adds a back arrow to profile headers via a new ProfileBackButton component, and it adds a useGoBack hook that goes back in history or falls back to the viewer's log or home. The title names the feature and the affected area. It does not mention the shared hook or the refactor of the commit page, which is expected for a short title.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 20.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 5 functions across 4 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Check for a previous entry, not the total history length.

If a visitor opens a profile directly, visits another profile tab, and uses browser Back to return to the first entry, the forward entry keeps history.length above one. This button then calls history.back(), which does nothing, and skips the log or home fallback. Use a check that distinguishes a previous entry from forward-only history. (developer.mozilla.org)

Closing as a duplicate of #905, which adds the same useGoBack hook and profile back button, moves the commit page onto it, and also covers the connections page. #905 is older and already approved, so please follow it for #903. Thanks!
