A Herdr mod that brings Android Studio's Run 'app' to Shift+F10: it builds your variant, installs it on the connected phone or emulator and launches it, with the build log one click away. With nothing connected it offers Wi-Fi pairing, by QR code or by pairing code with the phone's address filled in, or your emulator. Outside Android projects it stays out of the way.
Ask your agent in Herdr:
Read ~/.config/herdr-app/AGENTS.md, then add the mod at https://github.com/dev-gvs/herdr-android-run
Or by hand:
- Copy
mods/android-run/into~/.config/herdr-app/mods/. - Merge
keys.jsoninto your~/.config/herdr-app/keys.json. - Add a block for it to a layout you own (see RECIPE.md). Without the block the key does nothing.
- Run
herdr-app check ~/.config/herdr-app/mods/android-run.
- The Android CLI as
android, andadbfrom the Android SDK. qrencodefor the QR code. Without it, pairing by code still works.avahi-browseis optional. It finds phones when adb's own discovery lags.
Built and used on Linux. Stock macOS lacks timeout and setsid, which some steps use.
The mod runs your project's Gradle wrapper, which executes the project's build scripts, and android, adb, avahi-browse, qrencode and hc. It reads your project's Gradle files, manifests and build output, and writes under Herdr's data/android-run/. It reaches the network only through mDNS discovery and adb on your local network.
Build, delta install and launch have run on a real phone. Wi-Fi pairing and starting an emulator have only run against stand-in tools so far.
RECIPE.md is the full brief for building or changing it.
