• showCloudError reports failed Deepnote Cloud calls and, on a 401, offers "Set API Token" for the same file or folder.
• In an untrusted workspace both commands are disabled and the service neither reads, prompts for, nor sends a token. In the web extension host both commands are disabled and nothing is registered.

Deviations from the issue

1. Requirement change, by the issue author: the token is saved in VS Code SecretStorage instead of .env (Store the Deepnote API token in SecretStorage and resolve it for Deepnote Cloud features #562 updated). VS Code's secret storage is where the extension keeps credentials, and it keeps the token out of the workspace. It also removes the .env editing and the .gitignore/Git-extension code. Consequence: the CLI, the MCP server and terminal agents read .env, so they don't see a token saved by Set until a follow-up "Export API Token to .env" command.
2. A non-file workspace folder (virtualWorkspaces is true in package.json) is refused with localFilesOnly instead of being used as the fallback start.
3. localFilesOnly and openFolderFirst are shown with showErrorMessage.
4. Hardening that came out of review:
   • The lookup never walks above the workspace folder or sync root, even when VS Code reports the folder with another path case or a trailing slash, or the folder is missing on disk.
   • The token input accepts only letters, digits and _, the characters Deepnote API keys use, so a NUL or line break never reaches fetch, whose invalid-header error quotes the whole Authorization value.
