Suggested reviewers: Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The engine migration is mergeable with small follow-ups. A reorg at an already stored QRInfo height can cause a later restart to re-request data. An extreme ChainLock height can overflow a range bound. Both fixes are one-line guards. Security Architecture ReviewSecurity architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to The change reorganizes security-sensitive state and validation. The inspected signature checks remain in place, and direct external access is reduced. No introduced security bypass was established, but recovery guarantees and the complete path from peer messages to trusted state remain only partially demonstrated. The engine kept its own block container, fed by the sync and the replay only for the hashes they expected it to need. Most non-rotating quorums never got a height, so their work-block lists were requested again on every start (10-23 diffs, including a ~500 KB full list) and 20 of 24 Platform quorums stayed unverified. The engine now lives privately in dash-spv (`sml_engine`), generic over `BlockHeaderStorage`, and looks every height and hash up in the header chain. The block container, the height feeding in sync and replay, `known_mn_list_heights` and `build_mnlistdiff_request_pairs` are gone: `missing_work_block_list_requests` asks only for the work-block lists of unverified quorums. Also removed: engine state nothing read (known snapshots, quorum statuses), the always-None rotation signature plumbing of `MasternodeList::apply_diff`, the block-hash-lookup traits (replaced by `MasternodeList::from_diff`), helpers and error variants only the engine used. The 48 MB mainnet engine fixture is replaced by a 189 KB one holding what its tests read: the lists' ChainLock quorums, the rotation cycle and the block heights. InstantLock and ChainLock verification moves out of the engine into `InstantLockValidator` and `ChainLockValidator` in `validation`, which the InstantSend and ChainLock managers now use instead of their own checks. They take only what they verify against: the rotated quorums of the lock's cycle, and the ChainLock quorum type with the lists around the signing height. The InstantLock structure check rejects inputs with a null txid again; `InstantSendManager` had dropped it. Validated: dash-spv unit 607, dashd_sync 32, dashd_masternode 10, FFI 90. Mainnet bench from scratch: wallet unchanged (7120 txs, 20806424 sat), QRInfo 32/32 verified, 23 work-block diffs all applied. Restarting the CLI on that storage: replay 24/24, no work-block diff re-requested. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Masternode messages are stored by tip height. A start with no new block requests a QRInfo for the tip already stored, from a list the stored QRInfo built, and storing it replaced that QRInfo. The next replay could not apply it, nor the work-block diffs built on its lists, so it rebuilt nothing and the diffs were requested again (on mainnet, 25/48 messages and 22 diffs every other start). The storage now keeps the stored QRInfo when the new one is applied on top of a list it builds. A new one that does not depend on it, for instance after a replay that failed, still replaces it. The restart dashd test now starts a third time with no new block and fails without the fix: the replay rebuilds no list. Fixes #1109. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Few things to look at:
1. Malformed InstantLocks are no longer rejected when their cycle is unknown
dash-spv/src/sync/instantsend/manager.rs:150-172: on dev, validate_structure ran unconditionally before anything else. It now lives inside InstantLockValidator, which only runs when rotated_quorums_of_cycle(&cyclehash) returns Some. A lock with a zero signature, no inputs or a null input txid plus a random cyclehash is now queued as pending for up to an hour (keeping the manager out of Synced), cached under its txid (so the genuine lock for that tx is later dropped as a duplicate) and emitted as InstantLockReceived { validated: false }.
Please run the structure check before the cycle lookup, in both places that build the validator (:153 and :261, ideally via one shared helper), and bring back a manager-level test like the removed test_instantsend_structural_validation. The test helper at :437 was switched to a non-null txid, so nothing covers this path right now.
2. Breaking API change: mark it and give Platform's blocking callers a path
This removes the dashcore::sml::masternode_list_engine module, TryFromWithBlockHashLookup/TryIntoWithBlockHashLookup, the old apply_diff signature, several error/skip-status variants, the qrinfo-capture feature, the dash_spv::MasternodeListEngine* re-exports, FFIDashSpvClient::masternode_list_engine, and makes DashSpvClient::masternode_list_engine pub(crate).
Platform (v5.0-dev) calls client.masternode_list_engine() in packages/rs-platform-wallet/src/spv/runtime.rs at 507, 540, 584, 608 and 621. It only reads latest_masternode_list(), so the new DashSpvClient::latest_masternode_list() covers the async ones, but 540, 584 and 621 are *_blocking functions using blocking_read and can't use an async-only accessor. Please add a non-async accessor (or agree on the migration with Platform), and retitle with ! (e.g. fix(dash-spv)!:) like #1066, #1076 and #1093, listing the removed API in the body. CHANGELOG.md:65 and :108 also still mention the FFI engine accessor.
3. Public signatures expose types from the private sml_engine module
QRInfoFeedResult is used in the public field SyncEvent::MasternodeStateUpdated.qr_info_result (sync/events.rs), and MasternodeListEngine in the public new() of MasternodesManager, InstantSendManager and ChainLockManager. External users can't name either type, and the three managers can no longer be constructed outside the crate. Please re-export QRInfoFeedResult intentionally and make those constructors pub(crate).
4. Unit tests for the two fixes
MasternodeListEngine::missing_work_block_list_requests(dash-spv/src/sml_engine.rs:223) is the core of the first commit but is only exercised through the sync manager and the dashd tests. Please cover: verified quorums skipped, rotating and retired types skipped, unknown height skipped, targets deduplicated, base picked from the nearest lower list with the all-zero fallback.- The keep/replace branch in
store_qr_info(dash-spv/src/storage/masternode.rs:332-341) is only covered on its keep side by the dashd restart test. Extendingstoring_the_same_height_twice_keeps_the_newer_messagewith "unrelated QRInfo replaces", "different tip hash after a reorg replaces" and "corrupt stored file replaces" would pin it down.
`DashSpvClient::latest_masternode_list_blocking` gives callers outside the async runtime, such as Platform's FFI threads, a replacement for the engine accessor this branch makes private. The changelog lists the removed API. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…king constructors Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…cycle `InstantLockStructureValidator` checks a lock's structure and `InstantLockValidator` only its signature. The InstantSend manager runs the structure check first, so a malformed lock of an unknown cycle is no longer kept pending, cached under its txid or emitted. The masternode engine now looks block heights up in the header storage instead of keeping its own block container, which never got most non-rotating quorum heights. Platform quorums verified on mainnet: 24/24 (4/24 on dev). The engine moves privately into dash-spv.
A start with no new block no longer overwrites the stored QRInfo with one built on it, so every start replays all stored messages (mainnet: 48/48 on four consecutive starts, no MnListDiff re-requested).
