…#1400) Signed-off-by: Markus Wieland <markus.wieland@sap.com>
…1401) Convert all log/slog usage in internal/knowledge (datasources, db, extractor, kpis) to controller-runtime's logr via package-level `var log = logf.Log.WithName(<pkg>)`. Translation rules applied: - slog.Info/Warn -> log.Info; slog.Debug -> log.V(1).Info - slog.Error(msg, "error"/"err", err) -> log.Error(err, msg) (logr puts the error first); bare slog.Error(msg) -> log.Error(nil, msg) - a Warn carrying an error is promoted to log.Error so the error keeps its first-class slot (logr has no warn level) env.go (package db under db/testing) keeps the stdlib "log" package for gorp's trace writer, aliased to stdlog, so the package log var can be used for the two app-level log lines. Signed-off-by: Markus Wieland <markus.wieland@sap.com>
…1404) Convert the remaining log/slog usage in the scheduling stack (internal/scheduling and api/external) to controller-runtime's logr, completing the slog removal from the service (only tools/ retains slog/stdlib log). Key interface changes: - The pipeline step interface Run now takes logr.Logger instead of *slog.Logger; the trace logger stays a threaded parameter, only its type changed. - FilterWeigherPipelineRequest.GetTraceLogArgs() now returns []any (flat k/v pairs for logr.WithValues) instead of []slog.Attr, removing the slog.Attr -> []any conversion loop in the pipeline. - APIMonitor.Respond takes logr.Logger (value); callers pass logr.Logger{} / logr.Discard() instead of nil, and it falls back to the package logger when the passed logger has no sink. Translation rules (unchanged from earlier phases): - Info/Warn -> Info; Debug -> V(1).Info; Error(msg,"error",err) -> Error(err, msg); a Warn carrying an error becomes Error so the error keeps its slot. - Package-level loggers named to avoid shadowing the controllers' local 'log := ctrl.LoggerFrom(ctx)' idiom (pipelineLog in lib, schedulerLog in nova). Tests pass logr.Discard() as the trace logger; the one buffer-capturing test installs a zap logger via logf.SetLogger to assert on output. Signed-off-by: Markus Wieland <markus.wieland@sap.com>
Complete the slog removal started in the previous commits: - Drop the now-dead LOG_LEVEL env from the manager helm template; logLevel renders only --zap-log-level. Guard the env block so it is omitted when no custom env is set. - Update helm values.yaml and cortex.secrets.example.yaml comments that referenced 'both zap and slog' to describe the single controller-runtime (zap) logger. - Add a forbidigo rule to .golangci.yaml forbidding any slog.* usage, with a message pointing at sigs.k8s.io/controller-runtime/pkg/log, so log/slog cannot re-enter the service. --------- Signed-off-by: Markus Wieland <markus.wieland@sap.com>

Motivation: we want to reserver entire hosts for failover, and when evaucation events are encountered, gang-schedule all virtual machines onto these hosts. The failover host reservation subtype provides the data layer for this feature. --------- Signed-off-by: Philipp Matthes <p.matthes@sap.com>

It controls the namespaces searched for agent pods (nova-compute, neutron) during offboarding. Helm users are not affected (chart default: `monsoon3`); anyone deploying the image directly or with customized values must set `controllerManager.manager.env.agentNamespaces` (comma-separated). - New optional chart values `controllerManager.manager.env.evictionConcurrency` (default `"1"`) and `evictionTraitConcurrency` (default empty). #### New features ##### Parallel VM migrations while draining a hypervisor ([#365](https://redirect.github.com/cobaltcore-dev/openstack-hypervisor-operator/issues/365)) Drains previously migrated VMs strictly one at a time; you can now run multiple live migrations in flight with a configurable limit: - `--eviction-concurrency` — default maximum number of concurrent migrations (default `1`, i.e. the previous serial behavior) - `--eviction-trait-concurrency` — per-trait overrides, e.g. `CUSTOM_HANA_EXCLUSIVE_HOST=1,CUSTOM_FOO=2`; the lowest matching trait limit wins - Helm chart exposes both as `evictionConcurrency` / `evictionTraitConcurrency` values (rendered as `EVICTION_CONCURRENCY` / `EVICTION_TRAIT_CONCURRENCY` env vars) ##### Eviction completes only after incoming migrations settle A host could previously be declared evicted while Nova still had migrations in flight targeting it (Nova keeps instances associated with the source host while a live migration runs). The operator now queries Nova's `/os-migrations` and, before declaring a hypervisor evicted: - aborts abortable incoming live-migrations (`queued` / `preparing` / `running`) aimed at the host - waits for non-abortable ones (evacuations, post-migrating state) - adds an `IncomingMigrationsSettled` condition to the Hypervisor CR (reasons `Settled`, `AbortingIncomingMigrations`, `WaitingForIncomingMigrations`); a failed Nova check blocks eviction and is visible in status instead of being silently ignored ##### Hardened offboarding - The `kvm.cloud.sap/offboarding` NoExecute taint is applied only after all VMs are evicted (`Evicting=False`), so agent pods are no longer pushed off a node mid-migration - Compute-service (Nova service entry) deletion is gated on a new `AgentPodsEvicted` condition on the Hypervisor CR — a running nova-compute pod would otherwise re-register the service immediately after deletion - HA protection is kept until successfully onboarded hosts are drained; a successful onboarding is no longer overwritten during maintenance ##### Node termination detection via `deletionTimestamp` Gardener is moving away from setting the legacy `Terminating` node condition toward simply deleting the Node. The Hypervisor `Terminating` condition — and `MaintenanceTermination` seeding at CR creation — now trigger on the legacy condition **or** `node.deletionTimestamp`. #### Reliability & performance - `GOMEMLIMIT` is set from the container memory limit so the Go GC respects the cgroup limit (prevents OOM kills) - OpenStack provider clients are cached per auth context — the Keystone service catalog is deserialized once instead of once per controller - Deployment/PodDisruptionBudget informers scoped to the maintenance objects in `kube-system` only (smaller cache footprint) - The Gardener node-lifecycle signal pod now exits promptly on SIGTERM #### Internals - `HypervisorMaintenanceController` migrated to server-side apply for status updates and Eviction creation (new SSA condition helpers in `internal/utils`) - Eviction controller extracted into its own `internal/controller/eviction` package - Onboarding controller made testable (injectable clients, requeue interval); `--version` now works without the other runtime flags - CRDs regenerated with controller-gen v0.22.0 (doc fixes only; no schema changes beyond the new conditions) #### Dependencies & tooling - Go 1.26 → 1.27; k8s.io/\* 0.36 → 0.37.1; controller-runtime 0.24 → 0.25.2 - gophercloud v2.12 → v2.15.0; cert-manager v1.20 → v1.21; sapcc/go-api-declarations 1.22 → 1.25 - Security: OpenTelemetry → v1.45.0; ginkgo v2.33.1; actions/checkout v7; actions/stale v11 **Full Changelog**: <cobaltcore-dev/openstack-hypervisor-operator@v1.2.3...v1.3.0> </details> --- ### Configuration 📅 **Schedule**: (in timezone Europe/Berlin) - Branch creation - "after 6pm every weekday, every weekend, before 8am every weekday" - Automerge - At any time (no schedule defined) 🚦 **Automerge**: Enabled. ♻ **Rebasing**: Whenever PR becomes conflicted, or you tick the rebase/retry checkbox. 👻 **Immortal**: This PR will be recreated if closed unmerged. …1422) ## Summary - Update `docs/04-knowledge-database/05-infrastructure-dashboard.md` to reference `dashboards/` instead of `tools/perses/dashboards/`, and list all 10 current dashboard filenames (was missing `cortex-compute-kvm-details.json`, `cortex-global-compute-capacity.json`, `cortex-project-flavor-usage.json`, `cortex-status-global.json`) - Update `docs/04-knowledge-database/06-monitoring.md` to reference `dashboards/` instead of `tools/perses/dashboards/` - Update `docs/01-getting-started/07-tooling.md` to reflect that `tools/perses` now holds only Perses Helm values (`values.yaml`), with dashboards moved to the repo-root `dashboards/` directory ## Context PR #1399 moved Perses dashboards from `helm/library/cortex/perses/dashboards/` (previously referenced as `tools/perses/dashboards/`) to a top-level `dashboards/` directory. Three docs files still referenced the old path, violating RECIPE §5 (relative links must resolve to files that exist) and §1 (docs must derive from code). ## Test plan - [ ] Verify `dashboards/` path references match the actual repo structure - [ ] Verify listed filenames match `ls dashboards/` output - [ ] Verify `tools/perses/` description matches its actual contents (`values.yaml` only) 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Co-authored-by: cortex-ai-agents[bot] <279748396+cortex-ai-agents[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…filter (#1421) ## Summary - In `filter_has_enough_capacity.go`, the overloaded-host check used `traceLog.Info` for negative CPU (line 291) but `traceLog.Error(nil, ...)` for negative memory (line 318). This asymmetry was introduced when #1416 (filter out overloaded hosts) combined with the logging unification in #1404. - Both conditions represent the same abnormal situation — a host whose allocation exceeds its effective capacity — so the CPU path is now aligned to use `traceLog.Error(nil, ...)` to match the memory path. - Log-level-only change; no behavioral or test impact. ## Test plan - [x] Code compiles successfully - [ ] Verify in logs that overloaded CPU hosts now appear at error level, consistent with overloaded memory hosts 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Co-authored-by: cortex-ai-agents[bot] <279748396+cortex-ai-agents[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Markus Wieland <SoWieMarkus@users.noreply.github.com>

Release cortex 0.7.2
Bumped Versions
FailoverReservationCRD deprecated: The existingFailoverReservationtype is now deprecated in favor of the newFailoverHostReservationsubtype. Migrate any tooling referencingFailoverReservationtoFailoverHostReservation.Features
Failover Host Reservation CRD subtype (#1408) — A new
FailoverHostReservationreservation type supports reserving entire hosts for failover, enabling gang-scheduling of all VMs onto a designated host during evacuation events. Includes a full lifecycle model (Designated → Active → In Use → Used/Revoked/Failed), new spec (FailoverHostReservationSpec) withsourceHostsfield, new status (FailoverHostReservationStatus) withsourceHostfield, three new condition types (FailoverHostDesignated,FailoverHostActive,FailoverHostInUse), and CRD enum validation and kubebuilder print columns updated.New KVM Overview Perses dashboard — Added
cortex-compute-kvm-overview.jsonwith rich visualizations for KVM compute infrastructure.Bug Fixes
Filter out overloaded hosts (#1416) — The capacity filter now correctly excludes hosts with negative free CPU or memory (allocation > effective capacity), which were previously silently passed through.
Owner ref for CR reservations (#1403) — Fixed setting owner references on committed-resource reservations.
Confirm CR reservation allocations immediately (#1424) — When a VM is already on the target hypervisor, reservation allocations are now confirmed immediately rather than waiting for a subsequent reconciliation cycle.
Consistent error log level for overloaded hosts (#1421) — Aligned CPU overload log to
traceLog.Errorto match memory overload log (was inconsistently usingtraceLog.Info).VM CRD added to Tilt (#1426) — Added the
cobaltcore.cloud_virtualmachinesCRD to the Tiltfile for local development.Chores & Refactoring
Logging unification — slog → controller-runtime/logr (#1400, #1401, #1404, #1407) — Completely removed
log/slogfrom the codebase, unifying all logging under controller-runtime's logr (zap-backed). Translation rules:slog.Info/Warn→log.Info,slog.Debug→log.V(1).Info,slog.Error(msg, "error", err)→log.Error(err, msg). Key interface changes:Runnow takeslogr.Loggerinstead of*slog.Logger;GetTraceLogArgs()returns[]anyinstead of[]slog.Attr;APIMonitor.Respondtakeslogr.Logger. The deadLOG_LEVELenv var was removed from the Helm template and a forbidigo lint rule banningslog.*prevents re-introduction.Logging level reduction (#1409, #1410, #1412, #1413) — Reduced verbosity across commitments, failover reservations, knowledge, and scheduling modules by downgrading non-essential log lines.
Dashboard reorganization (#1399) — Perses dashboards moved to a top-level
dashboards/directory. The KVM details dashboard was renamed and updated with new color overrides, instant queries, an OS version pie chart, and a "Ready" column in the host table.Documentation
dashboards/instead of the oldtools/perses/dashboards/path; listed all 10 current dashboard filenames.Dependency Updates
