feat(web): redesign Settings and Integrations, add theme and font choices - #157
Redesigns the Settings and Integrations pages and adds appearance choices.
Settings > Providers, Document reading, MCP: settings show as compact rows instead of a mini card each. Tall cards go full width and split into two columns with container queries, so no column becomes a tower. Local server and Get a model start closed and open by themselves when they need attention.
Settings > Appearance: a light and a dark theme (the OMRS default plus 29 OpenChamber theme pairs), an interface font, a code font and a text size (80 % to 150 %). System mode still follows the operating system. Fonts are OFL Fontsource packages that load only when chosen.
Integrations: every section is one full-width card with a row per entry. Masonry is gone from this page.
Fixes: text fields show one accent edge on focus instead of a second offset ring. Open Studio panel sections show in the accent colour, and the panel has Expand all / Collapse all.
Docs:omrs-design skill, web/DESIGN.md, web/src/integrations/AGENTS.md and web/THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md (themes and fonts).
New dependencies
Seven pinned font packages: @fontsource-variable/{inter,geist,source-sans-3,jetbrains-mono,fira-code,geist-mono} and @fontsource/atkinson-hyperlegible, all OFL-1.1.
Tests
New and rewritten tests for each layout and behaviour. Each new test failed before its change, and a deliberate break of the code failed it again.
Local: lint, typecheck, 2,260 web tests and the build pass.
Checked on the live app after each change. No browser screenshots in this PR.
Notes
21 of the OpenChamber themes port well-known palettes that carry no attribution in the source files. The notices credit them by name. Check their licences before a public release.
npm audit reports 4 warnings in existing dev tools (vite, vitest, undici), not in the new packages.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added Appearance settings for light and dark themes, including theme search and selection, interface and code fonts, and adjustable text size.
Added an Expand all / Collapse all control in Studio’s canvas.
Updated integrations and runtime components to appear in ordered, compact lists with clearer status and action details.
Improvements
Reorganised provider and reading settings into clearer layouts with compact setting rows and collapsible panels.
Updated focus styling for text fields and highlighted open accordion sections.
Added attribution and licence information for bundled fonts and appearance themes.
Providers, Document reading and MCP drop the mini card per setting and the
masonry layout. Settings show as compact rows (DenseSettingRows). Local
providers, the OCR card and both MCP cards go full width and split into two
columns with container queries. Local server and Get a model start closed
and open by themselves when they need attention (PanelDisclosure).
Settings > Appearance adds a light and a dark theme list (the OMRS default
plus 29 OpenChamber theme pairs, MIT), an interface font, a code font and a
text size from 80 % to 150 %. System mode still follows the operating
system. Bundled fonts are OFL Fontsource packages that load only when chosen.
Choices stay in this browser; preferences stored before this change still load.
Extras, Tools, OCR engines, Model files and Local servers drop masonry.
Each section is one full-width card with a row per entry: name, badges and
purpose left, actions and commands right from 768 px of card width.
… Studio panel
Text fields matched :focus-visible after a click, so the offset ring showed
beside the field border while typing. They now show a 2px accent edge
instead; other controls keep the keyboard ring. Open accordion sections show
their title and icon in the accent colour, and the Studio panel header gets
an Expand all / Collapse all button.

Remove the duplicated default palette.
tokens.css is the only source of colour values, but web/src/lib/themes/catalogue.ts defines the same default colours again. The values currently match, so this is not a current swatch defect. It is a maintainability and design-system contract violation.
Choose one of these fixes:
Make the default catalogue values read from the CSS tokens.
Generate the catalogue defaults from tokens.css at build time. Add a sync check if the generated output remains committed.

Update the layout test around the listitem assertions to check child order for
rows that render actions: assert that the second child contains the action
controls. Alternatively, add a distinct data-slot to the actions wrapper in
EntryList and assert that slot, while keeping rows without actions valid.
The test checks the child roles but not the layout class. It can pass if @3xl:grid-cols-2 is removed.
Add a class assertion for the two-column layout.
If class-level coverage is not required, rename the test so it does not claim a side-by-side layout.

Update the MCP layout test around the `data-slot='mcp-columns'` query to assert

two-column layout rather than only its child roles.
The test checks child grouping, but it does not check @3xl:grid-cols-2. Removing that class can leave the assertions unchanged. Renaming the test only describes the narrower coverage; it does not restore the layout check.

- Studio opens on a gallery of profile cards. A profile canvas takes the full main area; one floating panel holds six sections: Pipeline settings, Operations, Steps and connections, Connect ports, Revision and run, Step settings.
- Settings has seven sections, switched by `chip` buttons: Appearance, Providers, Chat, MCP, Server log, Runtime, Workspace. Each chip writes `#/settings/<section>`.
- The Providers section shows one card per registered LLM provider in `MasonryColumns` (1, 2 or 3 column stacks, each card in the shortest column), because the cards have different heights. A key field is write-only: `Input type="password"`, emptied after save, never filled with a saved key. A field set from the environment or the config file is locked and says so in text ("Set from environment (read-only here)", "Set from config file (read-only here)" with the lock text from the server). A key set from a key file is not locked: the card says "Set from key file (read-only here). Saving a key in the keychain overrides it." and keeps the key input. Saved values apply at once, so the section shows no restart banner.
- Appearance offers System, Light and Dark, a light theme and a dark theme (the OMRS default plus 29 OpenChamber pairs, MIT), an interface font, a code font and a text size from 80 % to 150 %. Bundled fonts are OFL Fontsource packages that load only when chosen. `tokens.css` stays the source of the default theme.
Line 215 says that selectable bundled fonts load when chosen. Line 185 says "No web fonts." foundations.md line 72 says "Do not download fonts." A contributor cannot follow both rules. Choose one option:
Keep bundled fonts. Add the rule to .agents/skills/omrs-design/references/foundations.md first. Then change web/DESIGN.md line 185 to state that the default interface font is system sans and that bundled fonts load only when chosen in Settings > Appearance.
Remove bundled fonts from the design. Delete the bundled-font sentence from web/DESIGN.md line 215, and remove the font chooser from the Appearance description.
As per coding guidelines, web/DESIGN.md "mirrors tokens.css and this skill; it adds no rules." Option 1 keeps that rule.

Confirm an approved exception for the seven Fontsource packages, or remove them.
The PR adds seven @fontsource packages to web/package.json. The design skill allows no dependency beyond the add-web-ui-stack list and @tanstack/react-query. The Fontsource packages are not on that list, and the OpenSpec tree does not mention Fontsource. Owner approval, if it exists outside the repository, does not change this, because the allowlist does not name these packages.
Choose one of these options:
If the owner approved these packages, record the exception. Add the seven packages to the allowlist in .agents/skills/omrs-design/SKILL.md and to the matching OpenSpec change, so the repository rule matches the dependencies.
If no approved exception applies, remove the seven packages from web/package.json. Also remove the font imports and font options that use them, or replace them with a source that the allowlist permits.

Escape theme metadata before writing TypeScript strings.
The generator writes theme id, name, variant and author into double-quoted TypeScript literals without escaping. A " or a newline in any of these values produces invalid themeData.ts, which breaks the web build. Use json.dumps for each string value, or reject such values as the script already does for colours.
Suggested fix
- body = ", ".join(f'{k}: "{v}"' for k, v in values.items())- by = f', author: "{author}"' if author else ""+ body = ", ".join(f"{k}: {json.dumps(v)}" for k, v in values.items())+ by = f", author: {json.dumps(author)}" if author else ""
lines.append(
- f' {{ id: "{tid}", name: "{family}", variant: "{variant}"{by}, colours: {{ {body} }} }},'+ f" {{ id: {json.dumps(tid)}, name: {json.dumps(family)}, variant: {json.dumps(variant)}{by}, colours: {{ {body} }} }},"
)
Alternatively, reject any metadata value that contains ", \ or a control character, as the script already does for colour values:
Apply the json.dumps diff above (preferred).
Or add a sys.exit check for ", \ and control characters in tid, family and author.

Validate stored theme and font IDs in readPreferences.
Stored IDs that are not in the catalogue pass through unchanged. The Appearance controls then show no selection while the fallback theme and font are applied. Accept only known IDs, and use the default when a stored ID is unknown.
Keep the validation in readPreferences. Check each theme ID against themesOf(variant) and each font ID against its option list.

Open Get a model when its download has failed.
A failed download keeps the card's failure notice inside the closed "Get a model" panel. The panel opens only while a download runs or a start request fails. After a revisit, the user sees no failure reason until they open the panel. Open the panel for failed as well. Choose one of these fixes:
Keep the panel open after a failure by storing the open state for each failed job. Use this option if the panel must stay closeable after a failure.
As per coding guidelines, "Local server and Get a model start closed and open by themselves when they need attention." A failed download needs attention, so the panel must open for it.

Show the status read error when the Get a model panel is closed.
The status error notice sits inside the Get a model disclosure. The disclosure opens only for a running download or a failed start, not for a failed status read. When GET /v1/model-downloads/current fails before any status is cached, the error and its retry button stay hidden until the user opens the panel.
Fix options:
Include the status error in the attention flag so the panel opens on a failed status read.
Render the status error above the PanelDisclosure, so it stays visible while the panel is closed.

Enlarge the bulk-toggle target to 44px below the md breakpoint.
The Expand all and Collapse all button uses size="icon-sm", which renders at 32px. The changed container removes hidden below lg, so this button is now visible on narrow Studio viewports. The design rules require touch targets of at least 44px on narrow screens. The icon-sm variant has no hit-area expansion.
As per coding guidelines, the rule in web/DESIGN.md states: "Touch targets on narrow screens are at least 44px."
Choose one of these fixes:
Add a narrow-screen size to the Button primitive. Use it for this button only. Do not override the height with a className on the primitive, because the design rules prohibit that.
Change the icon-sm variant in web/src/components/ui/button.tsx so it is 44px below md. This also changes every other icon-sm button, so check each call site.
Keep 32px and record a narrow-screen exception in web/DESIGN.md. This changes the stated requirement and needs owner approval.

Merge appearance changes with the current state.
When storage is unavailable, updatePreferences rebuilds from DEFAULT_PREFERENCES. A later partial appearance change can therefore replace an earlier font, text size, or theme choice in the current session.
Merge each partial change with the current React state in change.
Persist the merged result.
Add a regression test that makes storage throw, sets a font, then sets a text size, and asserts that both values remain.

Raise the Mono light error colour so its badge label meets WCAG AA.
