Example of improvement: 414owen/outlines-core#5
Example of regression: 414owen/outlines-core#6

Reports can contain both at once, of course.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Performance reports separate benchmark regressions from improvements, with results sorted by ratio.
    • Comparison comments show the previous and current commit IDs above the results table.
    • Reports show all alerts when the threshold is zero, or applicable regression and improvement sections for nonzero thresholds.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Failure checks now apply to regressions only, so benchmark improvements do not trigger failures.

hi @414owen
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you!
Thank you for this contribution! As you might see we have failing tests in this PR. Could you please have a look at those and update them to match the new proposed output format? If we are missing tests for the case of improvements please do add them.

Thanks for the update @414owen !
Could you please also add test cases for when we have both gains and losses as well as one where it doesn't trigger an error if we have only gains?

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Benchmark alerts now classify results as losses or gains and use separate regression and improvement tables. Alert and zero-threshold comments use performance report formatting. Failure checks consider losses only.

findAlerts returns separate loss and gain lists. Zero-threshold results use a general report, while alert results use separate regression and improvement sections. Failure checks use losses only.
Build performance report comments
src/write.ts, test/buildComment.test.ts, test/write.spec.ts
Comments show commit IDs above the table and use generic Current and Previous headings. Alert comments show regression and improvement tables when those result lists are nonempty.
