Cursor reports its ACP model options with their settings in brackets, such as composer-2.5[fast=true] or grok-4.6[effort=high,fast=true]. DevSpace required the requested model to match an option exactly, so --model composer-2.5 (the name Cursor shows everywhere else) failed with cursor ACP model does not support 'composer-2.5', and the error buried the real value in a long list.

Model and effort selection now accept an exact value as before, or a plain name when exactly one option is that name followed by bracketed settings. When the name is ambiguous, for example grok-4.6 with several variants, it still fails and lists the available values, so DevSpace never picks a variant on the user's behalf. The resolved value is what gets sent in session/set_config_option.

Verified against Cursor: devspace agents run cursor --model composer-2.5 now completes. Unit tests cover the exact, unique, ambiguous, and partial-name cases. #441 complements this by listing the exact values with devspace agents models cursor.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Selection requests can now match an exact option or resolve a plain name to its uniquely matching bracketed variant.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Ambiguous or unmatched selections continue to be rejected, with available options included in the error when present.

Cursor's ACP model values carry settings in brackets, such as
composer-2.5[fast=true], and DevSpace required an exact match, so the
natural --model composer-2.5 was rejected. Accept a plain name when
exactly one option is that name plus bracketed settings; ambiguous
names still fail and list the available values.

Walkthrough

ACP config selection now accepts an exact available value or a plain name that identifies one bracketed variant. Ambiguous and unmatched requests remain unsupported. Tests cover exact, unique, ambiguous, and unmatched values.

Changes: ACP Select Matching

Value matching and config resolution
src/local-agent-acp.ts, src/local-agent-acp.test.ts
The exported matchAcpSelectValue helper prioritizes exact values and returns a bracketed variant only when the requested name matches one available variant. Config resolution uses the matched value and retains the existing unsupported-value error. Tests cover exact, unique, ambiguous, and unmatched values.

One bracketed choice can pass,
Too many leave the field blank, alas.
Tests follow each trail with a nibble of grass.

Nitpick Add a resolver-level test for a plain name that resolves to one variant.

830-831: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Add a resolver-level test for a plain name that resolves to one variant.

The new test at src/local-agent-acp.test.ts:827-834 calls only matchAcpSelectValue. The config-update tests use only exact values, and their session/set_config_option assertions check only request counts. A regression that returns or sends the requested plain name would pass the suite.

Suggested test addition
     assert.deepEqual(
       resolve(session([{ value: "a", name: "A" }, { value: "b", name: "B" }]), "b", flavor),
       { sessionId: "session_1", configId: "option_id", value: "b" },
     );
+    assert.deepEqual(
+      resolve(session([{ value: "a[x=1]", name: "A" }]), "a", flavor),
+      { sessionId: "session_1", configId: "option_id", value: "a[x=1]" },

Review comment at @src/local-agent-acp.test.ts around lines 830 - 831:
Add a resolver-level test alongside the matchAcpSelectValue tests that passes a
plain name when only one variant is available and verifies the resolved value is
that variant’s full value. Use the existing resolver test setup and assert the
returned session, config, and value, rather than testing only
matchAcpSelectValue.
Nitpick Add a test for exact-value precedence over a bracketed variant.

830-831: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a test for exact-value precedence over a bracketed variant.

The new test has no plain composer-2.5 entry next to composer-2.5[fast=true]. If matchAcpSelectValue stopped checking for an exact match first, the test would still pass. The current behavior is correct, so this is a coverage gap, not a production defect.

Add a separate assertion with its own list. Adding composer-2.5 to the existing available list would change the variant-fallback assertion at line 831.

Suggested test addition
   assert.equal(matchAcpSelectValue(available, "composer"), undefined);
+  assert.equal(matchAcpSelectValue(["composer-2.5", "composer-2.5[fast=true]"], "composer-2.5"), "composer-2.5", "exact value wins over a variant");
 });

Review comment at @src/local-agent-acp.test.ts around lines 830 - 831:
Add a separate assertion in the test for matchAcpSelectValue using a list
containing both "composer-2.5" and "composer-2.5[fast=true]"; verify that
requesting "composer-2.5" returns the exact value. Keep the existing available
list unchanged so its variant-fallback assertion remains valid.
