miniSTICS

R-CMD-check

miniSTICS is a simplified crop model derived from the STICS soil-crop model.

The model simulates crop development, biomass production and soil water balance with reduced complexity, while preserving the main processes controlling phenology and water stress.

miniSTICS is particularly suited for crops sensitive to vernalization and photoperiod, such as winter wheat.

Installation

You can install the development version of miniSTICS from GitHub using:

# install.packages("remotes")
remotes::install_github("SticsRPacks/miniSTICS")

Load the package:

library(miniSTICS)

Example

The package provides example datasets allowing a first simulation to be run.

data(soil_example)
data(weather_station_example)
data(practices_example)
data(weather_example)

plant <- plant_parameters()

result <- miniSTICS(
  soil = soil_example,
  weather_station = weather_station_example,
  practices = practices_example,
  plant = plant,
  weather = weather_example
)

Customize plant parameters

Plant parameters can be modified before running a simulation:

plant <- plant_parameters(
  rue = 3.5,
  flag_vern = FALSE
)

result_modified <- miniSTICS(
  soil = soil_example,
  weather_station = weather_station_example,
  practices = practices_example,
  plant = plant,
  weather = weather_example
)

Input data

A miniSTICS simulation requires five types of inputs:

  • plant: plant parameters defining crop characteristics.
  • soil: soil description and initial soil water conditions.
  • weather_station: geographical information of the weather station.
  • practices: crop management parameters (sowing date, density, etc.).
  • weather: daily weather data used as model forcing.

The package provides example datasets for all inputs except plant parameters, which are generated using plant_parameters().
