Updates pycryptodome from 3.23.0 to 4.0.0

Release notes

Sourced from pycryptodome's releases.

v4.0.0 - Grenoble

Major release, with some breaking changes. See Changelog.

v3.24.1 - Frejus

Resolved issues

  • Security: the time to create an ECDSA, EdDSA or DSA signature depended on the secret nonce, enough to recover the private key with a lattice attack. DSA signing is now about 40% slower with GMP. Thanks to Daniel Bleichenbacher.

v3.24.0 - Evreux

New features

  • Speed up KangarooTwelve by 50% for long messages (1MB or more).
  • New parameter threads for Crypto.Hash.KangarooTwelve.new(), to hash long messages on several CPU cores (threads=0 for all of them). The output does not depend on the number of threads.

Resolved issues

  • GH#875: Fixed the Object Identifiers (OID) for BLAKE2.
  • Fixed a potential DOS attack when decrypting a password-encrypted PKCS#8 key, when the iteration count is enourmous. Decryption will now fail if it exceeds 50M iterations; the limit can be changed or removed via the new max_iteration_count option. Thanks to afldl for reporting.
  • Fixed the maximum number of bytes that GCM should encrypt. Thanks to Loganaden Velvindron.
  • Fixed ECC operations on 32-bit Windows (x86) wheels: due to a compiler bug in Visual Studio 2022, the modular inversion skipped half of the exponent bits, producing wrong results.
  • Fixed a bug in KangarooTwelve in the scenario where customization string is very long (8190 bytes or longer) and the message to hash is empty.

Other changes

  • Build Windows wheel with Visual Studio 2022, from Visual Studio 2019.
  • Remove support for Python 3.7.

4.0.0 (14 October 2026) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Breaking changes

  • Remove support for Python 2.7 and 3.8. The minimum supported version is now Python 3.9.
  • The pycryptodomex package (Cryptodome namespace) is no longer released (except for important security patches, but still on the 3.x branch). The library is only available as pycryptodome, under the Crypto namespace.
  • The self-tests are now run by pytest, which must be installed for python -m Crypto.SelfTest to work. The test command of setup.py is removed: install the package (e.g. with pip install -e .) and run python -m Crypto.SelfTest instead.
  • In Crypto.Protocol.KDF.SP800_108_Counter(), the label can no longer contain zero bytes, while the context now can (for instance, a binary nonce). The zero byte between them still separates the two unambiguously, as required by NIST SP 800-108r1 (GH#896).
  • The coordinates of EccPoint and EccXPoint (x, y and xy), EccKey.d and the components of ElGamal keys (p, g, y and x) are now Python int objects, not Crypto.Math.Numbers.Integer. The ElGamal components can no longer be assigned.
  • The GMP library is no longer used, and the environment variable PYCRYPTODOME_DISABLE_GMP has no effect. Big integers are handled by the new constant-time code (see below). Crypto.Math.Numbers.Integer (an internal class) no longer supports negative values.
  • Elliptic curve points are decoded more strictly. Importing a NIST curve public key (SEC1, DER, PEM or OpenSSH) fails if a coordinate of the point is equal to or larger than the modulus p, as required by SEC1 (such coordinates were reduced modulo p before; EccPoint and ECC.construct() still reduce them). Ed25519 and Ed448 points (public keys, and R in signatures) are decoded as in RFC 8032: an encoding with x = 0 and the sign bit of x set, or (for Ed448) with any of the 7 low bits of the last byte set, is now rejected.
  • RSA keys are limited to a modulus of 16384 bits: RSA.generate(), RSA.construct() and RSA.import_key() raise ValueError for larger ones. The constant-time arithmetic is slower than GMP, and a large public key from an untrusted source could take minutes to import or use.
  • Crypto.Protocol.KDF.bcrypt_check() rejects (with Crypto.KdfIterationLimitError, a ValueError) a bcrypt hash whose cost is above 20, which takes about one minute: a hash from an untrusted source, which states its own cost, could otherwise tie up the CPU for a day. Use the new parameter max_cost to accept costs up to 31, as before (0 for no limit).
  • ChaCha20-Poly1305 with an 8-byte nonce follows RFC 8439 (the nonce is prefixed by 4 zero bytes, and the block counter has 32 bits): a single message longer than about 256 GiB is now rejected with MessageTooLongError. Before, the counter overflowed into the 4 zero bytes, which no specification defines. The ciphertext and the tag of shorter messages are unchanged.
  • Exporting a private key with a passphrase uses PKCS#8 with 'PBKDF2WithHMAC-SHA256AndAES256-CBC' and 600 000 iterations by default, instead of weak schemes. With RSA keys, export_key(passphrase=...) returned a PKCS#1 key with the obsolete PEM encryption (one round of MD5 and 3DES, easy to brute force), and now returns an ENCRYPTED PRIVATE KEY: the parameter pkcs of RsaKey.export_key()

6.22.3 (2026-09-12)

Bugfix

* (Windows) Revise earlier fix for :issue:`9508` to avoid breaking
executables located on ImDisk RAMDISK volumes. (:issue:`9510`)
* Compare the icon file suffix case-insensitively, so an icon named with an
upper-case suffix such as ``MyApp.ICO`` is recognised as already being in the
right format instead of being rejected or silently re-encoded.
  (:issue:`9521`)
* Fix ``onefile`` parent-process validation to allow intermixed nested
  sub-processes. (:issue:`9513`)

Bootloader

  • (POSIX) Enable onefile parent-process validation for POSIX executables that have setgid bit set, and for Linux executables that have file capabilities set (i.e., have a security.capability extended file attribute). (:issue:9524)
  • (POSIX) Revise the validation of owner and permissions of onedir application's contents directory when the executable has either setuid or setgid bit set. If setuid bit is set, the owner ID of the application's contents directory must match the owner ID of the executable itself, and only owner is allowed to have write permissions on the directory. If setgid bit is set, the group ID of the application's contents directory must match the group ID of the executable itself, and only owner and the group are allowed to have write permissions on the directory. (:issue:9524)
  • Limit onefile parent-process validation only to executables that are running with elevated privileges while inheriting environment variables set by unprivileged user. On POSIX systems, this corresponds to executables with setuid bit set, while on Windows, it corresponds to UAC-elevated processes (running with TokenElevationTypeFull token). (:issue:9520)

6.22.2 (2026-08-17)

Bugfix

* (Windows) Fix spurious security validation error when a ``onefile``
executable is launched from a symlinked directory or a junction.
  (:issue:`9508`)

The executables in our macOS and Windows release archives and ruff wheels are now code-signed. macOS executables are signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. Windows executables have timestamped Authenticode signatures from Azure Artifact Signing. This enables verification of the release publisher and binary integrity, supports publisher-based allowlisting, and should reduce security warnings and antivirus false positives.

Breaking changes

  • Update the default and latest Python versions for 3.15 (#28792)

Ruff now defaults to Python 3.11 instead of 3.10 when no Python version is configured through target-version or requires-python. When checking for syntax errors without a configured Python version, Ruff now defaults to Python 3.15

Updates mypy from 2.3.1 to 2.4.0

Changelog

Sourced from mypy's changelog.

Mypy Release Notes

Next Release

Mypy 2.4

We've just uploaded mypy 2.4.0 to the Python Package Index (PyPI). Mypy is a static type checker for Python. This release includes new features, performance improvements and bug fixes. You can install it as follows:

python3 -m pip install -U mypy

You can read the full documentation for this release on Read the Docs.

Python 3.15 Support

Mypy 2.4 supports running on Python 3.15 and type checking most Python 3.15 features. This includes the new builtin sentinel type for sentinel values (PEP 661), which mypy now supports (see below for details). Lazy imports (PEP 810) and unpacking in comprehensions (PEP 798) are also supported. Closed TypedDicts (PEP 728) have been supported since mypy 2.2, but the extra_items TypedDict argument, also introduced in PEP 728, is still unsupported. Support for extra_items will be added in a future mypy release.

Native Parser Enabled by Default

Mypy now uses the new native parser by default. It's based on the Ruff parser, and it's significantly faster than the legacy parser, which uses the stdlib ast module. The native parser also has other benefits:

  • You can target newer Python versions and use recent Python syntax even when running mypy on an older Python version. For example, you can use --python-version 3.15 when running mypy on Python 3.14.
  • Stub files can use syntax that is newer than the target Python version. For example, stubs can use the PEP 695 generic class syntax (class Box[T]: ...) when running on or targeting Python 3.10.
  • Parallel type checking requires the native parser.

The legacy parser is still available through --no-native-parser, or native_parser = False in the config file (native_parser = false under [tool.mypy] in pyproject.toml). We are planning to remove the legacy parser in early 2027. If you run into a problem with the native parser, please report it on the issue tracker.

Unlike the legacy parser, the native parser doesn't support type comments for variables defined by for and with statements. These type comments are silently ignored, and the types of the variables are
