Tails 7.14 ships qr, zbarcam and gzip, but not jq (package list).
The guide's offline-signing steps (#92, #93) use jq three times:
- filter
listdescriptors output for importdescriptors
- take
.psbt from send
- take
.hex from walletprocesspsbt, only if complete
Options, most preferred first:
- Say in the guide that Tails users install
jq with Additional Software before disconnecting.
- Use something Tails ships instead, such as
python3 (3.13 in Tails 7.14).
- Handle it in python-codex32.
Decision (Ben, 2026-10-03): option 2. python-codex32 won't handle Bitcoin addresses or their serializations, and the guide recommends only what works in Bails without installing software, since Bails doesn't run as admin. Scripting these steps belongs to Bails: BenWestgate/Bails#312.
Update (Ben, 2026-10-04): moot. #93 drops the guide's QR commands, since QR transport for offline signing is Bails's job, so the guide needs neither jq nor python3.
