fix: required Checkboxes/MultipleSelect no longer fail when using a label binding - #4394
Conversation
…abel binding The required check looped over every data model binding, including label, which is an array for multi-select components. Only simpleBinding holds the user's selection, so only that is checked now for Checkboxes and MultipleSelect.

renderGenericComponentTestrendersCheckboxContainerComponentdirectly. It does not mountStoreValidationsInNode, which is the path that callsuseNodeValidationand thenCheckboxes.useEmptyFieldValidation. Therefore, reverting thesimpleBinding-only logic can leave this test passing becauseuseValidateGroupIsEmptyis never called. Move this case to a validation test or a full generated-layout harness that mountsStoreValidationsInNode; changing only the renderer toCheckboxes.renderis insufficient because that method also returnsCheckboxContainerComponent.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Description
Required Checkboxes and MultipleSelect components that store the display text (
labeldata model binding) kept showing "You must fill out this field", even with options selected, so the form couldn't be submitted.Summary
For multi-select components the
labelbinding holds astring[]. The required check went through every binding, saw an array instead of a string, and flagged it as empty. Now onlysimpleBindingis checked for Checkboxes and MultipleSelect. List still checks every binding, since it has one binding per column.useValidateGroupIsEmpty if group binding check group rows else - for every binding (simpleBinding, label, metadata) - error if value is not a non-empty string // label is string[] → always error + keys = Checkboxes/MultipleSelect ? [simpleBinding] : every binding (List) + for each key + error if value is not a non-empty stringWhy not just treat a non-empty array as filled?
labelandmetadataare filled in by the app, not by the user, and they can be empty while a selection exists. For example, metadatais only written when the options API sendsaltinn-downstreamparameters, so with static options the required error would never go away. This is a regression from #3353 (v4.19.2). Before that, Checkboxes used
useEmptyFieldValidationOnlySimpleBinding. RadioButtons and Dropdown already check onlysimpleBindingfor the same reason.Evidence
New test in
CheckboxesContainerComponent.test.tsx:Manual test in
ttd/component-library(localtest), withrequired: trueand alabelbinding to astring[]field on a Checkboxes component. Tick two boxes, then submit:labelwas saved as["Kjøre til hytta på fjellet", "Kjøring i skogen"].After (this branch): no error. Unticking every box still shows the required error.

Merge Danger
Door: two-way
Small, isolated change to one validation hook. Reverting is enough to undo it.
Blast Radius: small
Only affects required validation for Checkboxes and MultipleSelect without a
groupbinding. Apps that rely onlabelormetadatabeing non-empty to pass the required check no longer get an error from those bindings. That was never intended, and they are filled in from the selection anyway.Related Issue(s)
