To be merged after alisw/alidist#6353 which updates the generator version and includes it in AliGenO2, otherwise O2sim will not build it and the CI will continue to fail. The external generator bypasses the HepMC conversion that was used in the past in AliGenerators (pre-existing macro still uses HepMC2).
Tested with o2-sim (with and without transport) and dpl-eventgen for on-the-fly simulations. Additional validation might be needed from the requestor. The configuration for PbPb is a simple example.
