Set it explicitly for another approved repository or GitHub host. The runner rejects other URLs before asking `gh` to contact them. The worker is an argv wrapper around the selected model CLI. It must preserve the review work directory and absolute output paths while limiting readable files to that snapshot, the installed BStack package read-only, required CLI runtime, and narrowly scoped provider login. The package contains the review rules the model must read; when installed in a project, expose `.bstack/package` without exposing its sibling `.bstack/reviews` directory. Keep GitHub credentials and unrelated host files out, and restrict network access to the provider route it needs. A regular shell script that simply forwards arguments is not isolation. + +The runner tests the review worker by reading required BStack policy files, trying to read canaries outside the snapshot and in the project, probing common credential paths, and checking that `gh` cannot return a token inside the worker. It also checks access to a local listener when the host permits one. A passing canary is a useful check of the configured worker, not a proof that every host secret or network route is isolated. `doctor --live` also sends a short request through that worker. Every PR review requires a configured worker. + +`runtime_verification` is optional. It runs one fixed command from this private config against a disposable copy of the pinned PR head after the safety preflight passes. Point `command` at an existing, executable project check. The separate runtime worker must have no GitHub or model credentials, block network egress, and enforce CPU, memory, and process limits; do not use the review worker for this job. `doctor --live` probes its selected file, credential, environment, and host-loopback boundaries without running the project command. That probe cannot establish that every external route is blocked, so inspect the worker's actual network policy too. The snapshot has no `.git` directory or preinstalled dependencies. If the check needs either, provide the required trusted inputs inside the worker or leave runtime verification unconfigured; the runner will not retry on the host. Project output is hashed and bounded, never shown to the models as instructions. A failed or timed-out check leaves a reviewable partial assessment that cannot approve. -`doctor` checks configuration, executable availability, versions, and required CLI options. Add `--live` to send one short prompt to each selected role before starting a review. `run` does this live check itself before fetching source or paying for the full three-model review. Other developers' reviews remain untrusted discussion context and cannot skip this developer's model pass. +- Every independent review requires a configured external worker. The runner supplies a reduced environment and checks policy-file, outside-file, and GitHub-credential canaries through that wrapper. The wrapper must enforce file and network boundaries; the runner cannot manufacture those boundaries with a prompt or CLI flag. A preflight pass does not relax this requirement. +- Running a project's app, tests, or verification skill is a separate operation with a separate worker. The command must be selected in trusted local configuration and execute against a disposable copy of the pinned head, without GitHub or model credentials. Enforce file, outbound-network, CPU, memory, and process boundaries in that worker. Do not let PR content choose commands or network destinations. Treat even a clean-looking diff as executable untrusted code. +- The runner checks the PR target before contacting it and caps the diff and model-call budget. The publisher escapes model prose as plain text, including reference-style links, images, HTML, and bare URLs. It creates evidence links itself. These controls reduce abuse but do not make model prose a trusted channel. +- Public review receipts contain reproducible hashes, not signatures. They can prevent duplicate publication by the same account, but no longer skip another checkout's model pass or provide its incremental baseline. Other reviews remain discussion context. ## Before unattended review of hostile PRs -Run the model CLIs in an OS-enforced environment whose readable files are limited to the review snapshot, required runtime files, and narrowly scoped authentication. Restrict network egress and GitHub credentials separately from the models. Test an outside-snapshot canary through each actual CLI launcher, including wrappers, and fail closed if it is readable. Keep publication in the parent runner after it validates findings against the pinned diff and rechecks the PR head. These controls need a portable implementation and live tests before this workflow can claim to safely review adversarial PRs from a normal developer workstation. +Run the model CLIs in an OS-enforced environment whose readable files are limited to the review snapshot, the installed BStack package read-only, required runtime files, and narrowly scoped authentication. If the package is inside the project, expose `.bstack/package` without exposing `.bstack/reviews`. Restrict network egress and GitHub credentials separately from the models. Run `doctor --live` through each actual launcher and wrapper. The canary checks selected files, not every possible secret or route; verify the worker's mounts and network policy independently. If dynamic verification is enabled, give its separate worker no credentials and no network egress by default. Keep publication in the parent runner after it validates findings against the pinned diff and rechecks the PR head. The callback service must authenticate webhook requests, validate the repository and PR target, and deduplicate delivery IDs. + +The preflight is a useful early stop, not a certification that the PR is safe. Prompt injection can evade a judge, and executable code can do harmful work without any prompt instruction. The isolation boundary remains mandatory after a pass. If preflight itself fails, stop. An unverified evidence location becomes a generic, runner-written hold instead of a link to a fabricated line; reviewers still do not proceed. + +Maintainers can exercise the live judge without GitHub or real PRs using `python3 -B engineering/review-pr/scripts/security_eval.py --project "$PWD"` from an installed package. The fixtures include normal code and docs, injected instructions in source and PR discussion, and secret-egress attempts. This is a small regression check of one configured model, not a measure of general attack-detection accuracy. The end-to-end tests also cover a held PR posting one sanitized comment and a hostile runtime command running only in a disposable sandbox. diff --git a/bstack/release/bstack/engineering/review-pr/scripts/budget.py b/bstack/release/bstack/engineering/review-pr/scripts/budget.py new file mode 100644 index 0000000..65f9c32 --- /dev/null +++ b/bstack/release/bstack/engineering/review-pr/scripts/budget.py @@ -0,0 +1,34 @@ +from datetime import datetime, timedelta, timezone +import fcntl + +from contracts import ReviewError +from host import read_json, write_json + + +def reserve(root, target, limit, calls=6): + now = datetime.now(timezone.utc) + path = root / "usage.json" + lock_path = root / ".usage.lock" + if path.is_symlink() or lock_path.is_symlink(): + raise ReviewError("Review usage files must not be symbolic links") + with lock_path.open("a") as lock: + fcntl.flock(lock, fcntl.LOCK_EX) + history = read_json(path) if path.exists() else [] + if not isinstance(history, list): + raise ReviewError("Review usage history is invalid") + recent = [] + for item in history: + try: + when = datetime.fromisoformat(item["at"]) + count = item["calls"] + except (KeyError, TypeError, ValueError) as error: + raise ReviewError("Review usage history is invalid") from error + if when.tzinfo is None or type(count) is not int or count < 1: + raise ReviewError("Review usage history is invalid") + if when > now - timedelta(hours=24): + recent.append(item) + if sum(item["calls"] for item in recent) + calls > limit: + raise ReviewError(f"Review model-call budget reached ({limit} reserved calls per 24 hours).
